Omni San Diego Hotel

Hotel Information:

This glass-and-steel tower, which opened in 2004, includes both condos (the higher, curved part of the building) and hotel rooms. Linked to the ballpark by a pedestrian skybridge, the hotel caters to baseball fans, savvy vacationers, and business travelers, and is directly across from the convention center, which sits on San Diego Bay. The streamlined design is 21st-century chic, with subtle maritime elements, neutral colors, and walls of windows flooding the lobby with light. Many hallways offer views of city, bay, and beyond, and original oil paintings are on every floor.

Amenity highlights:

In addition to its ballpark connection and proximity to the convention center and Gaslamp District, the hotel offers concierge services, 24-hour room service through an on-site McCormick & Schmick’s restaurant, and wireless Internet access everywhere. Meeting facilities are extensive, and guests enjoy bay and city views from window-lined hallways. An attractive terrace has a pool, spa tub, stone fireplace, and adjacent bar with plasma TVs.

Insider tip:

The Omni’s collection of baseball memorabilia is displayed in glass cases on various floors: Babe Ruth’s 1932 contract, a leather ball from 1875, vintage gray-flannel Negro League jersey, and more. Most prized? A pair of worn-out cleats from 1941 that DiMaggio wore in his famed 56-game hitting streak.
