From its origin as a manufacturer of tennis ball machines, Prince has become one of the world's leading sporting goods manufacturers.
Known in the industry for its leadership in technology and innovation, Prince has revolutionised the game of tennis with its introductions of the 'Oversize' and 'Longbody' racquets.
That winning tradition continued in 1999 with the successful launch of the Triple Threat Racquet Series. The result of a revolutionary new weighting system, Triple Threat is the game's first and only racquet technology to offer perfect balance and stability. 2001 saw the introduction of Tungsten, a strong dense metal, into the Triple Threat 2001 Series. This new addition heightens racquet stability and provides the highest level of power and precision on the market today.

In addition to technical advancements, Prince sponsors some of the sport's most elite athletes, including Jennifer Capriati, Patrick Rafter and Martina Navratilova. Their successes in Grand Slam competitions has heightened consumer interest in the Prince brand as well as the sport of tennis.
Today Prince maintains a strong presence on the professional tennis circuit through sponsorships and events and works closely with a number of local programmes in developing grass-roots opportunities for sports next generation of stars.
The history of Prince can be traced back to its founder Robert McClure, an inventor who developed ball-throwing machines in 1970 in Princeton, N.J. In 1971, Howard Head, former owner of Head Ski Company, became involved with Prince when he contacted the company to purchase a ball machine. An avid tennis player, Head invested in Prince and, shortly thereafter, became chairman of the board. Five years later, in 1976, Head changed the game of tennis forever when he invented the 'oversize' racquet.

Prince entered the squash market in 1987.
In June 1982, Chesebrough-Pond's, Inc. purchased Prince. Company sales continued to increase, and manufacturing capabilities were added in 1983 resulting from the acquisitions of Grafalloy Corp. in El Cajon, Calif., and Grafamex in Mexicali, Mexico.
In 1985, Prince expanded its successful product line to include athletic footwear, sports apparel and an expanded sports luggage line. In January of 1987, Unilever N.V., an international consumer products company, acquired Chesebrough-Pond's. This provided an opportunity for Prince management, in conjunction with Brentwood Associates, a private investment firm located in Los Angeles, to purchase the company. This transition was completed in August 1987. That same year, the Company entered the international squash market with the introduction of squash racquets and a line of accessories. In 1988, Prince entered the men's and women's apparel market in Europe to further expand its brand worldwide. Demonstrating its strategy and commitment to growing its business, Prince purchased Ektelon, the global leader in racquetball.
Prince is a division of Italy-based Benetton Group, a global lifestyle consumer products company. Benetton Sportsystem USA, a subsidiary, manages the North American operations for Benetton sports brands that include Ektelon racquetball, apparel and fitness products; killerloop snowboards, skateboards and apparel products; Nordica skis, ski boots, bindings and apparel; Prince tennis, squash, badminton and apparel products; and Rollerblade in-line skates and accessories.
