We had alot of great groups
in 2005 and I look forward to seeing you all again in 2006 as
we prepare for a new canine hiking year.
As a Delaware native, I was
especially heartened by the great response to the Delaware seashore
hikes from folks who had previously overlooked the Diamond State.
Hopefully the state will have completed their construction work
at the beach that will re-open 200 campsites and expand our options
for 2006 (since they have doubled state park entrance fees they
better).
Some of the new things this
year include revamped day hikes in the Delaware Water Gap and
along the Susquehanna River. If all you know about Lancaster
County is rolling farmland and you've only seen the Susquehanna
from a bridge, the latter will be a real treat. There are several
ravines along the river that make you feel like you're in the
Appalachian mountains, not Amish country.
Also new this year, I will
customize tours for your group (minimum pack size of 3). Can't
make a particular date or want an outing more convenient to your
home? Let us know and I'll design and lead a canine hiking day
to meet your needs (within two hours of Philadelphia).
Another thing that is different
for 2006 for those of you who hiked with Ben in the past is that
he won't be with us this year. Ben passed away at the age of
16 1/2 last fall. Just two days before he passed Ben was wagging
his tail atop Mt. Davis - the highest point in Pennsylvania -
so he certainly left the trail a happy dog.
