email Notifications of Changes
Using criteria effective in determining possible early warning signs of identity theft, Equifax alerts you by email of changes to your Equifax credit file. Changes that result in a notification include:
- New accounts opened in your name
- Credit inquiries resulting from a company requesting a copy of your credit report
- An address change
- Bankruptcies and other public records
- Changes to current accounts
- Balance increase alerts based on a self-selected dollar amount or percentage
When you receive a notification for an event you do not recognize, you should contact the company or organization listed in the notification immediately.

When you sign up for Equifax Credit Watch™ Gold, you receive access to your Equifax Credit Report™ at no extra charge (see an explanation of the differences between Gold and Silver products above). Identity Fraud Expense Coverage
Identity theft can cost its victims thousands of dollars. Identity Fraud Expense Coverage reimburses victims of identity theft for a range of expenses that result from identity theft (Gold subscribers up to $20,000 with no deductible, Silver up to $2,500 after a $250 deductible).
Expenses Covered
- Notary and certified mailing costs for completing and delivering fraud affidavits
- Long-distance calls associated with reporting the identity theft and re-establishing your identity
- Loan application fees associated with refiling a loan originally rejected because of incorrect credit information resulting from the identity theft
- Attorney fees (with prior consent) incurred from suits brought incorrectly against you by creditors or collection agencies, and for removing civil judgments wrongly entered against you
