They look great and show you support the Lehigh River restoration efforts. The hats have embroidered lettering and brook trout. The t-shirts are printed on both sides. View Riverwear

Datasonde 3 Hydroprobes
LRSA's, Datasonde 3 Hydroprobes at Northampton. We now have probes in the river 24/7 monitoring pH, Dissolved Oxygen, conductivity, turbidity, and level. Matt MacConnell removes the probe on right for data download. The clean probe on left will take it's place for a week of water quality monitoring. See more on our Watershed Information page.

Two for One
Once again, we are giving a free 2006 sponsorship to anyone that recruits two new sponsors. Ask your friends, ask your neighbors, ask anybody that might care about the mighty Lehigh. Come one, come all, and come have a ball.

The Voice of the Lehigh River Stocking Association

It’s hard to believe that another year has come and gone. 2005 was a year of extremes, flooding in spring followed by a drought that lasted form mid spring until fall hurricanes gave us 12” of rain. Let’s hope the New Year gives us some moderation and back to the norm.
LRSA sponsors enjoyed the benefits of our stocking program. We received a lot of positive feedback on the size of the trout that were stocked in 2005. We will follow the same plan for 2006, stocking large rainbows in the spring and fingerling browns in the fall.
Please continue your support of the LRSA throughout the year; we have the Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament in March and need your help to make it a success as players or to help in running the game. Our daily number calendar makes a great stocking stuffer! That means more fish in the Lehigh. If you have fishing buddy who is not a sponsor ask him or her to join us.

Tight Lines!
Bill Derhammer, LRSA President

Stocking Trout is Fun— Want to help?

There have been some changes in the last couple years in our stocking strategies and methods for helping man the events. In the past, phone calls were placed to a rotating list of volunteers so that a sufficient number of people could meet the trucks for stocking. We generally like to have 6 to 8 people with each truck. Last year and again this coming stocking season we will advertise in the Newsletter and at our meetings what days we will be stocking and the meeting time and location. We encourage people to show up at this designated spot if they would like to help out.
Last year we had fall fingerling stocking, a spring stocking before opening day and a in-season stocking sometime after the start of the season. Our current strategy is to stock larger fish in the fall—in the 6-8 inch range—and to stock large fish 12-13 and 17-18 inch on opening day followed by stockings on five or six subsequent weekends. We would like to be sure that the fisherman we support see us and we welcome help in stocking the fish. The dates of stocking will be published in the Newsletter issue preceding opening day and we encourage folks to meet us at the designated rendezvous locations.
The number of fish we stock depends on your sponsorship dollars so please remember to send in your donation and encourage your friends as well. Last year our sponsorships were down slightly and while the size of the trout stocked were large, the numbers were down slightly from where we had hoped. Thank you for your continued support.

Spring Stocking Program...

It’s that time again. Hunting is over, and fishing season is just around the corner. So put away your hunting gear and spool up your reels with 10 lb test. The river is loaded with hold over fish and all the smelt sized fish we stocked in the fall. These fish should be in the 10 to 12 inch range in spring. It just gets better; this spring we are going to stock all trophy trout, 15 inches and up, line snappers and jumpers, WOW. We will stock until we run out of money, so don’t forget to do your part am send in your membership and sell some tickets. We will try to make this a year you will not forget. Bring your rods, bring a friend come help us stock and have some fun. Perhaps you will be caught on our next video map and stocking tour to come out next spring. Check out the schedule and just show up and fish. When the truck shows up grab a tub handle and help put the fish in.

  • May 13th 9:00 AM: We will start over again but this time we will do Northampton all the way through Walnutport stopping along the way in Laurys Station and Treichler’s.
  • May 20th 9:00 AM: We will meet in Bowmanstown at the bridge again and repeat April 29th and May 6th in the same areas.

LRSA Director, Joe Mazurek stocks trout in Laury's Station on opening day of the 2005 trout season.

Many Thanks

My good friend and world class chef Paul Stetz came through again this year. If you think Yocco’s is good, you have never tried Paul’s chill sauce. It’s the best bar none! The Meadows Restaurant located in Hellertown donated the ingredients and Paul put it together. For those of you that don’t know what I am talking about, this was used at the stocking to garnish your hot dogs. Thanks Paul for once again for a job well done.

Your friend Teddy

Tagged Trout Fingerling Tagging Program on Track
Thanks to your donations for the Fall Stocking 10,000 small Brown Trout were stocked in the River. These fish ranged in size from 7-9 inches. It is our hope that these fish will winter well and be in the 11-14 inch class by April. One thousand of these fish were tagged with a white tag extending out from the left dorsal fin. If anyone catches one of the tagged fish? Contact Joe Mazurek at 610-360-2066 to report.

Free Membership for Every 25 Tickets Sold

Once again, our annual spring tickets have been sent out. We can always use your help selling these tickets. This ticket is our single largest fundraiser of the year. We could not do it without your help. Don’t forget sold tickets equal fish. If you sell 25 tickets your membership will be free. DON’T MISS OUT ON THIS ONE!
