Moe’s Southwest Grill creates $2M partnership

Atlanta-based Raving Brands, parent company of Moe’s Southwest Grill and one of America’s largest and fastest-growing restaurant companies, announces its $2 million, two-year commitment to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) as its largest annual financial corporate donor through 2008. This partnership is part of a larger initiative to leverage its extensive network of restaurants to help increase safety and awareness coast-to-coast and as a call-to-action for the entire restaurant industry to adopt simple, effective measures to address key child-safety issues.

Eblen plans $11.6M multi-use facility

Eblen Center for Social Enterprise

Eblen Charities announced plans to build the Eblen Center for Social Enterprise (ECSE), an $11.6 million, 72,000-square-foot, multi-use facility on three acres of land in Avery’s Creek. Eblen raised more than $3 million for the facility, and a capital campaign is under way to raise the remaining $8.6 million.

Immigrant labor a necessity?

With immigrant labor so much in the news lately, WCBJ asked landscaping firms to comment on this divisive issue. Not surprising, the answers ran the gamut.

John Thelen of Landmark Landscaping said migrant labor was “crucial in my industry as in construction. It’s hard to find Americans to do the grunt work. Latinos are trustworthy, strong in character, hard-working, good people.” Thelen travels to El Paso, TX, to help immigrants legally enter the U.S. through Homeland Security’s H2B Guest Worker Visa program. It’s an eight-month work visa, which just happens to coincide with the landscaping season.

ArvinMeritor reports $78M gain

Higher demand in commercial truck manufacturing propelled ArvinMeritor, Inc. to a $45 million net second quarter income—a turnaround from a net loss of $33 million in the same quarter last year.

The automotive parts supplier operates a plant in Fletcher and is listed on the New York Stock Exchange (ARM). The Troy, MI-headquartered company has worldwide sales of $8.8 billion annually and operates 120 manufacturing facilities in 25 countries.
