Community Support

Rooty Hill RSL Club support of the community continues our philosophy as "The Club that cares."

Club donates over $1 million...

Rooty Hill RSL Club has donated a record amount of over $1 million in the past 12 months to a wide range of beneficiaries in the local and broader community.

The amount donated (for the 12 months from September 2004) under the Community Development Support Expenditure Scheme in Category 1 and Category 2 was a massive $1,007,667.

A total of $393,655 allocated in Category 1, $271,146 in Category 2 and an additional $342,866 was allocated by In Kind Donations. The latter refers to free use of club bus and club rooms, free donations of show packages and restaurant vouchers to be used as raffle prizes for fundraising etc

The main recipients in Category 1 were:

  • Community Welfare & Social Services -Anglicare, Australian Red Cross NSW, Eagles RAP, Mt Druitt Community Health Centre, Motor Neurone Disease Association of NSW, Salvation Army, Youthlink, St Vincent de Paul Society, VVAA NSW Branch and VVAA St Mary’s Outpost Sub Branch;

  • The In-Kind Donations were highlighted by nearly $147,000 provided for free use of our club bus or the cost incurred by the RSL Club to hire buses from local companies; and another $86,000 was supplied by allowing a wide range of groups to have free access to club rooms for meetings and the like.

  • The annual Carols By Glowlight in December 20004 on the RSL Sportsfield which is free to the local community cost the club over $59,000 to provide the artists, sound and lighting, stage, fireworks, show bags, amusement rides etc The latter event invariably attracts over 3000 patrons.

The total amount that the RSL Club has donated to the broad community in the past five years or so is several million, maintaining a philosophy that goes back to one of the principal reasons why the RSL Club was formed in 1964, “working together as a community.”

In the last 41 years-despite a multitude of government regulations and increased taxes-Rooty Hill RSL Club has not failed a community that has help make this venue one of the icons of the Australian club industry.
