Software-based web phones can be installed on any computer located
anywhere in the world. The web phone can then be used for "web-to-web"
calls to other computers that also have the software installed. Many
software-based web phones also support "web-to-phone" services but
don't
normally support incoming calls, because a "phone number" is not
assigned.
Hardware-based Web Phones, however, can be used to make and receive calls
from anywhere in the world where there
is a wired or wireless high-speed Internet connection. A choice of
phone numbers from different cities is available, however, phone
numbers are not available in all cities or countries at this time.
In North America and Europe, there are many companies that offer Internet
Phone service. If you require a "local" phone number in your
particular city, you must find a company that allocates phone numbers in
your location. The VoIP service provider, however, could be either local or
foreign based.
