The Global AIDS epidemic affects everyone...
Almost 40 million people are infected with HIV. In 2003 alone, AIDS killed more than 3 million people. Given the political and economic instability that comes with such a huge loss of life, this epidemic will touch everyone—no matter where they live.
Some countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, the world's most affected region, may cease to exist as viable nations within 30 years:
-Half of South Africa's 15-year-olds could die from AIDS.
-In Zimbabwe, teachers and healthcare workers are dying faster than they can be trained.
-In Zambia, life expectancy is only 33 years.
Eastern Europe has the fastest-growing HIV/AIDS epidemic in the world.
HIV infections double every six months in Russia, and are on the brink of
hitting the general population.
India already has 4 to 5 million HIV-infected people, and could be the next
AIDS catastrophe if drastic action isn't taken.
Because China has only recently acknowledged the problem, vulnerable populations have had little assistance. The potential for disaster is huge.
The Global Fund is a global solution...
The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria was created in 2002 to finance the rapid scale-up of the global fight against such diseases. With 98 percent of funds going directly to lifesaving programs around the world, the efficiency of the Global Fund is unparalleled. Its resources are directed to the most critical programs in the field, while its results-based approach to grant-making is designed to ensure accountability.
Through a partnership of leaders from the U.S., Europe, Japan, developing nations, non-governmental organizations and the private sector, the programs supported by the Global Fund in over 100 countries expect to:
Treat more than 1.6 million people living with HIV/AIDS with life-saving anti-retroviral therapy
Reach over 52 million people with HIV counselling and testing services for prevention
Support over 1 million orphans with medical services, education and community care

We can only win the global fight if we all do MORE...
The governments of many developing nations have already made major contributions to the Global Fund and many corporations and foundations have showed tremendous support. But the AIDS epidemic continues to grow and destroy more lives every day. To support the efforts of the Global Fund, we need more from everyone, including you.
Your actions can help in the global fight against AIDS, TB and Malaria:
