The hotel

The hotel was erected on the right bank of the river Danube between 1916 and 1918 until opening to the public on September 24th 1918. It has maintained its reputation ever since, though the once famous splendour started to fade away. If the quality of the room is the most important for you, this hotel is not your choice. In case your goal is to make advantage of the free access of the adjoining Spa and several medical therapies or to discover Budapest, the hotel is suitable for you.

Location

Hotel Gellért is located in a picturesque environment at the foot of the Gellért Hill, on the bank of the Danube, it is ideally situated for both business and leisure travellers. This impressive location is within walking distance to Budapest's shopping and business district and it has a view on one of the most beautiful sights of Budapest, the Liberty Bridge. The Gellért Hill with it's astonishing panorama to the inner city is only a few steps away.

Mini comfort single room:
small single room (24sq. metres) on the inner side of the hotel with shower, available only for 1 person. Recommended for those who want to enjoy the services of Gellért Bath but for whom the quality of the room is not of primary importance.

Comfort single/double room:
for 1 or 2 persons larger in size, with bath tub, facing the courtyard, equipped with minibar not refurbished.

Standard single/double room:
for 1 or 2 persons larger in size, with bath tub, facing the Danube or Gellért hill, equipped with minibar, not refurbished.

Superior single/double room: for 1 or 2 persons with renewed bath. Spacious, facing the Danube, some with balcony. Equipped with minibar and safe, not refurbished. Extra bed available only in these rooms.

Hotel policy

Cancellation: In case of cancellation within 48 hours before arrival 50% of the price of the first night is charged. If you fail to show up or your cancellation is within 24 hours of arrival the price of the first night is charged.

In 2006 minimum 3 nights stay is required in the following periods:
14th to 17th April, 25th to 28th May, 2nd to 5th June, 15th to 18th June, 3rd to 6th August.

Children discounts: under age 12 one child can stay free in the room of the parents. In case of a family arriving with more than one child under 12 years instead of two double rooms the price of two single rooms is to be paid.

Wellness and fitness

The admission to the Gellért Spa is included in the price, this means that the use of pools and baths are free, but for special services you have to pay separately.

There are numerous wellness and fitness facilities, including: indoor swimming pool (27 x 10 m), outdoor swimming pool (38 x 14 m, closed in winter), sparkling bath, wave bath, thermal bath, steam bath. In the summer outdoor pool parties can be organised on request (for 500-1500 persons). The hotel also offers: sun terrace, solarium, sauna, manicure, pedicure, dentist.

Other services operated within the spa complex: thai massage, recreation.

The Gellért bath is under the management of the Budapest Spas and Thermal Waters Co. Ltd and is operated independently from the hotel. Spa opening hours and operational standards are therefore not under the control of the Hotel Management. No examination and treatments on Saturdays and Sundays, closed on public holidays.

Many activities are available, including biking, folklore shows, excursions to the Great Hungarian Plain, theatre visits, opera programme, visits to museums and all of the main sights of Budapest.
