Waterfowl populations in Izembek Lagoon have been holding at a steady rate for the past 15 years. The lagoon holds the entire
worlds population of Pacific
Black Brant before they head south to Mexico. The population
averages between 160-180 thousand birds during September and October. The
populations of Lesser and Taverner's Canadian Geese average between 120-140
thousand annually during the fall migration before they fly south at the
end of October. Another 50-60 thousand Spectacle and Stellar eiders live

Travel to this part of Alaska is fairly simple since Peninsula airways has daily flights to Cold Bay from Anchorage. You will need to make arrangements with Alaska Wilderness travel in Anchorage 1-800-544-2236 or your local travel agent to arrive in Cold bay on the start day of your trip usually a Sunday afternoon.
Most
guest's will have to fly to Anchorage the previous day and spend the night and
catch the morning flight to Cold Bay with
Peninsula Air. At the end of your
trip we
will return you to the local airport in Cold Bay and you will catch a return
flight to Anchorage arriving in the late afternoon. Due to the commercial airline schedules many guest's may wish to stay over again in Anchorage and catch a morning flight back to there home airport. Return to top of Page The weather in this part of Alaska is unpredictable and during the fall season can vary from rain to high winds. During September the average daily temperatures range from 45-55 degrees with a few real nice days reaching the mid 60's. So everyone should pack and dress accordingly in layers of Polar fleece with a good rain and wind shell as the outer layer. Expect it to be windy as the average year round wind blows 12-15mph in Cold Bay at the airport. But this doesn't slow us down as we have gotten used to it and made adjustments in our fishing techniques.
If your coming in October then the weather can be a little cooler and get down to
the mid 30's at night but normal day temperatures will usually reach 40-50
degrees. If planning to flyout to on The
