It's All About The Game

Posted by on Thu, 06/15/2006 - 03:56Spreading Firefox

It's a party; exciting, brutal, disappointing, joyful -- everything that the world's premier sporting event is supposed to be. This year's World Cup is off to an amazing start.

Are you getting it all? Wish you could keep on top of the games but can't take time off from work or school? Looking for an easy way to stay stay up to the minute and to support your country and your team?

Get the Joga.com Companion, Powered by Firefox.

Working with Google and their partners, we've put together a great experience that gives football fans up to the minute scores for all the games, 32 national team themes to pick from, awesome videos, football headlines, and easy access to amazing community resources.

And if you're not a football fan, I'll bet you've got a friend, family member, or co-worker that can't get enough of the games. (I know I have several!) Here's your chance to score some points. Send them to the Joga.com Companion page where they can easily install the Firefox extension, or, if they're not yet a Firefox user, they can get a full Firefox 1.5 with the Joga.com Companion built right in.

The Joga.com Companion is currently available in 7 languages and we're working hard to get a bunch more. You can get more information at http://www.mozilla.com/add-ons/jogacompanion/.

update: I forgot to mention the other great football extension for Firefox. If the Joga.com Companion doesn't fit your browsing habits, you might want to check out FootieFox.

New Campaign to Launch on Wednesday

Posted by on Wed, 06/14/2006 - 02:11Spreading Firefox

We've been cooking up something pretty cool with a couple of awesome partners (new and old), and we'll be going "live" early tomorrow morning if all goes well.  We can't tell you much more just now (as is often the case when working with traditional companies, there are non-disclosure agreements in place), but we think it will be a great way to introduce Firefox to an even wider audience worldwide.

Special thanks and kudos to all the folks from the Firefox Community who have worked with us over the last few weeks to make this happen.

Stay tuned!

Update 1:  It is taking a bit longer than we hoped.  It's still coming!

Update 2: We've launched!  Check it out!

Summer Projects at Mozilla

Posted by on Wed, 06/14/2006 - 01:57Personal

You'll be seeing a lot more activity over the coming months as we roll out new marketing programs and campaigns, and accelerate into the launch of Firefox 2.  There are also many new names and faces as we grow the team and community who are working together to raise awareness and drive adoption of Firefox worldwide.  (There are now more than 170,000 people registered here at SpreadFirefox to participate in Firefox marketing activities!)

This week marks the start of Mozilla's summer internship program.  We had an incredible number of applications for these internship slots, and I'm very pleased to introduce you to the folks who have joined the market and product management team full-time for the summer:
  • John Carey comes to use from Firefox Flicks (his entry was "Drama Queen") and he is currently attending college in Springfield, Missouri and plans to attend USC to pursue a degree in Film Production. In addition to experience on music videos, documentaries and events, John also has on-air radio experience.

  • Matthew Shichtman also comes to us from Firefox Flicks (his entry was "Get Foxy") and he is currently studying Film and Media Arts at Temple University in Philadelphia. Matthew brings with him extensive short-film production experience and has recent directed a fifteen-minute documentary for A Safe Place, a women's abuse shelter in the Chicago area.
  • Rachel Werner joins us as a diehard Firefox fan from UC Berkeley, where she is currently working on her MBA at the Haas School of Business. She also has a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

So what will they be working on?  I'll let them each give more details over the coming days and weeks, here on Spreadfirefox.  In brief, we're planning on launching new videos projects (possibly including a regular video podcast as part of a revised AirMozilla), the next phase of Firefox Flicks, and a community-based market research program to coordinate focus groups and surveys to support our marketing and product planning.

We've also started planning for the next SpreadFirefox Summit.  (More details soon.)

The Firefox Screencap Project

Posted by katyggls on Tue, 06/13/2006 - 20:56Spreading Firefox

I have started The Firefox Screencap Project over at my blog. The Firefox Screencap Project aims to show both current and potential users of Firefox just how the browser can be customized to meet their own personal needs and tastes.

Here's how it works. Take a screencapture of your Firefox and submit it to me at katyggls@yahoo.com , along with a short description of how you've customized/personalized your Firefox, including a list of the extensions you have installed and the theme you're using. Include a link to your blog or webpage, and I'll put your screencap, your description and a link to your blog in a post.

I already have a cache of bloggers lined up to post their Firefox screencaps, including Mitch Keeler of Firefox Facts and Jasper de Vries of Browservulsel. I want to keep this project going as long as there are submissions, so submit your screencap now!
