New ferry vessels proposed for Hawaii are 340 feet long and cruise at speeds of up to 45 mph. Whales and other animals are not able to get out of the way of a large vessel moving that fast, and when struck, will either be killed or suffer severe injuries.

Wastewater Pumpout Stations for the small boat harbors at Ma‘alaea and Lahaina have long been promised to the Maui marine community, but there has been little progress on this issue in recent years.
