Antique Clocks RecommendLong Case Clocks1) 10833 - A GOOD QUALITY 8 DAY OAK LONG CASE CLOCK BY JOHN PAYNE OF LENHAM, KENT. c1790 THIS CLOCK STANDS 7ft 9" HIGH WITH ITS ORIGINAL BRASS BALL AND SPIRE FINIALS. THE MOVEMENT IS OF GOOD QUALITY BEING IN THE LONDON STYLE WITH 5 SUPPORTING PILLARS,THE EARLY WHITE 12" DIAL BY OSBORN HAS A GOOD QUALITY PAINTING TO THE ARCH WITH GOLD SPANDRELS, THE DIAL ALSO SHOWS SECONDS AND HAS A SUBSIDIARY CALENDER DIAL. THE SUBSTANTIAL OAK CASE HAS A PAGODA HOOD TOP AND BRASS CAPPED COLUMNS, LONG TRUNK DOOR AND ORIGINAL FEET. JOHN PAYNE WAS BORN IN 1731 AND IS RECORDED AS BEING A WATCH AND CLOCK MAKER, MENTIONED IN KENT CLOCKMAKERS BY MICHAEL PEARSON THAT ALL SURVIVING CLOCKS ARE OF 2) 10863 - A small George III mahogany long case clock by James Lorimer, London circa 1790. The breakarch hood with gadrooned top, shallow arched flame mahogany door whiite 12" dial with Roman numerals and seconds ring with 8 day rack bell striking movement. Carriage Clocks1) 10929- A good quality French timepiece carriage clock in a pillared case with fine filligree frets c1900. 2) 10774 - A striking and hour repeating carriage clock in a finely engraved Corniche case. Circa 1880. 3) 10803 - A French Corniche cased striking and repeating carriage clock by Richards & Co., Paris. Movement No. 691 with its original key. 4) 10856 - A rare giant French giant gong striking carriage clock by Japy Frere circa 1890, in an Anglaise style case with Corinthium columns and Greek key style handle. The silver masked dial has inset painted Arabic numerals. 5) 10837 - An unusual quarter hour repeating carriage clock with alarm in a Cornich case made by the French manufacturer V. Reclus, circa 1870. This clock repeats the hours and quarters on two bells on demand. 6) 10835 - A French 8 day gong striking and repeating carriage clock in a Gorge case with original lever escapement. The movement stamped M.S. Circa 1875. 7) Right 10854 - A Gorge cased striking and repeating carriage clock with alarm. The movement and dial signed J. Klaftenberger, 157, Regent Street. Circa 1860. This clock was probably made by Henri Jacot for Klaftenberger who obtained most of his carriage clocks from Jacot. The clock bears a corresponding Jacot number 1577 for manufacture, circa 1860, with trademark arrows to the handset and alarm. 8) 10870 - A good quality French striking and repeating carriage clock, circa 1890, with fluted columns and filigree mounts, gilt brass trellis work overlay to the pink porcelain dial, with the chapter ring depicting a castle keep. This clock has its original platform escapement and is numbered 320. 9) 10884 - A French oval 8 day carriage clock with a serpentine handle, striking and repeating the hours on a bell with subsidiary alarm dial. Circa 1880. The arrows to the back plate of this clock suggest that it was probably made by Margaine, Paris. A famous maker of carriage clocks who won a silver medal at the Paris Exhibition of 1889 and gold in 1900. 10) 10918 - A French 8 day gong striking and repeating carriage clock in a very good quality Anglaise style case with Corinthium capped columns. The silver mask surrounding a silver dial with Roman numerals. the movement by Richards & Co, Rue de Bondy, Paris fitted with a fine quality Soldano lever escapement. Mantel & Bracket Clocks1) 10875 - A small French green shell bell striking mantel clock with fine engraved brass boulle inlay with visible sunburst pendulum, c1870. 2) 10735 - An 8 day bell striking mantel clock by Japy Frere, with self levelling pendulum in a mahognay case with inlay. 3) 10830 - A French engraved boulle and tortoiseshell inlayed mantel clock with a cast gilt dial and enamel cartouche numerals, the 8 day striking movement made by S. Marti et Cie c1890. 4) 10928 - A small rare French black and brass (Boulle) 8 day bell striking mantel clock of fine quality by S. Marti. The waisted case has ormolu mounts and a glass panel to the front with visible sunburst pendulum. The 3" dial has individual enamel cartouche numerals. C1860. 5) 10905 - A small rare French red shell and Boulle (brass) inlayed bell striking mantel clock with fine engraving to the brass work, with a white enamel and blue numerals. This clock made by Vincenti of Paris. C1880. 6) 10926 - A very good quality eight day quarter chiming (Westminster) and hour striking bracket clock retailed by Reid and Sons, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in an 18th century style oak case with pad top and brass side frets c1900. 7) James Beck, 5 Sweetings Alley, Cornhill, London, 1815-1823, Freeman of The Clockmakers Company. An oak and mahogany cased Regency bracket clock by this eminent maker with a 7 ½ " convex white dial with strike/silent, five pillar, two train, fuse movement, striking on a bell, with foliate engraved edging to the back plate. The case with stepped top and brass framed panels to the front finely, cast floral side frets with ringed side handles, and brass ball feet. Wall Clocks1) 10827 - A small 10" mahogany English Fusee Wall Timepiece, retailed by William Lee, St Johns Road, Clapham Junction, c1910. The Lee family had a long tradition of clockmaking in London from as early as the 17th century. This clock has had its dial restored some years ago. 2) 10868 - A small 10" Mahogany English Fusee Wall Timpiece retailed by Sir John Bennett, 65 Cheapside, London, c1880, with a heavy cast brass bezel, bevelled glass and original internal lock. |
