Learner Payments Tuition and fees at Royal Roads University vary depending upon the program. Tuition for international learners is higher than for Canadian learners, and there is significant diversity in tuition depending upon the length, structure and format of certificate, diploma, and executive education programs.

Tuition depositAll degree-seeking learners are required to pay a tuition deposit within 30 days of their acceptance into the program. The deposit will be applied towards the learner's first academic year's tuition. If the deposit is not paid, the offer of admission may be rescinded without notice. Please see the
ancillary fees section of the tuition and fees page for deposit amounts.
A learner who has paid the deposit but is unable to begin the program as scheduled may request a one-year deferral. This request must be sent in writing to the dean of the learner's division indicating why the deferral is required. Upon deferral of admission, the tuition deposit becomes non-refundable.
A deposit is refundable on written request only under the following circumstances:
- six months or more before the start of the program, 100 per cent refund less a $50 handling fee
- six weeks or more before the start of the program, 50 per cent refund
- There is no refund of the deposit for cancellations received less than six weeks prior to the start of the program. However, learners may request a one-time one-year deferral of admission. Upon deferral of admission, the tuition deposit becomes non-refundable.
Tuition Tuition fees for the first term registrations are normally due one month before the program starts. Subsequent term fees are due on or before the dates specified in the Payment Option Form for each program. To view the Payment Option form for any degree program, visit
Payment Forms page. Late payment of tuition is subject to a $50 late payment fee each occasion. Learners can arrange to pay tuition in several installments. An installment fee is applied.
A receipt will be automatically generated and mailed to the address on file for every payment made through the Learner Accounts department or the Registrar's office for tuition and related fees, residence, and meals. For payments made through the web, a receipt (payment confirmation) can be printed by the learner at the time of payment. For other receipts, email

Tuition tax receipts (T2202As) are mailed in February for the preceding calendar year to learners at their last known address. Learners are responsible for informing Registrar's Office of any address changes.

Overpayments and other credits are applied to the next term or quarter's fees and will not be refunded when there is an outstanding balance. Any remaining balance is refunded on request.
All reasonable efforts will be made to assist learners in finding ways to clear their debts with the university. It is the responsibility of learners, however, to keep their accounts current. The university reserves the right to withhold services or require withdrawal if satisfactory arrangements to clear outstanding debts are not made.
The following policy outlines the terms for payment of amounts owing to the university and the steps to be taken in the collection of overdue accounts.
General Payment Information
Payments by credit card can be made online through our
online payments page.
- Payments can be made by cheque, money order, Visa, MasterCard, American Express or in person with cash or debit card.
- Cheques and money orders must be made payable to Royal Roads University and forwarded to the attention of Learner Accounts, Royal Roads University, 2005 Sooke Road, Victoria, B.C., V9B 5Y2. For payment by cheque or money order, the learner’s name, student number (if known) and program must be noted on the cheque.
- Tuition payments can be made through most major Canadian Banks using their telephone or electronic bill payment service. Your account number is your six-digit student number.
- Overdue learner accounts will be assessed a late fee of $50 per occurrence.
- NSF cheques will be assessed a handling fee of $25 per occurrence.
- The University reserves the right to withhold services or require withdrawal if payment terms are not met. The University reserves the right to transfer any overdue account to an external collection agency for further action.
- An official receipt for income tax purposes (T2202A form) will be mailed out in February of each year. It is the learner’s responsibility to inform the University of their current mailing address.
