Rigging the Pink Worm
|
||||||||||
Pink plastic worms have been used by our Canadian steelheading brethren for years, but only in the last decade have they become popular here in the Pacific Northwest. Pink worms can be drift fished, backtrolled behind a bait diver, or fished under a float. Below is how to rig a pink worm for action: Using a worm threader insert the needle point near the tail approximately 3/4 the distance from the head. Insert the needle all the way thru the center of the worm, being careful to keep the threader as close to the center of the worm as possible. If you can see the threader thru the side of the worm simply back it up and get it more towards the center. This will keep the line from the cutting the side of the worm when it's fished, leading to "worm scrunchy"...not good! Now add a small bead to your pre-tied leader, which will keep the hook from cutting into the worm and make the worm fish longer.
Feed the line thru the needle
Gently slide the worm off the needle and down to the bead above the hook
Finished!
