Manitoulin Island is the largest island within a freshwater lake, and is a great vacation destination.The Niagara Peninsula is full of wonder, starting with the world wonder of Niagara Falls. The Canadian side of the Falls is spectacular, and a breathtaking view is available by riding the Maid of the Mist boat ride, taking passengers to the basin of the Falls. The vineyards are lush and the wine country is ripe for tourists. Niagara-on-the-Lake is styled in 19th-century fashion and is its history is retained in its forts and mansions. It is sometimes considered the prettiest town in Canada, and is a popular vacation destination. Canada’s capital is Ottawa, charmingly done up in both English and French styles. The Parliament of Canada is well worth a visit, as is the Laurier House National Historic Site, commemorating two former prime ministers of Canada, Rt. Hon. William Lyon Mackenzie King and Sir Wilfrid Laurier. A World War II-centered gift of tulip bulbs from the Netherlands eventually blossomed into the Canadian Tulip Festival, a colorful display and major event each May in Ottawa. The arts and music are also strong in Ottawa, from small jazz and blues clubs, to the National Arts Centre. Amazingly diverse ethnically, Toronto is Canada’s largest city, and simply offers so much from things to do to the cuisine selections. Major league hockey, basketball, and baseball really appeal to sports fans. Take a trip vertically up the 1,136-foot CN Tower.
