There is an ongoing debate between ADSL and cable Internet service providers regarding which of those technologies is fastest. Unfortunately, there is no simple answer to this debate. There are many factors that impact broadband speeds including network architecture, proximity to telephone exchange, local usage patterns and line quality. Broadband Internet service is, however, so much faster than dial-up Internet service, that speed differences are often not even noticeable (for most applications) once a certain speed threshold has been reached. In fact, slow response often has little to do with the broadband connection and more to do with bottlenecks on the Internet itself or problems with the web server where where the website is hosted. Significant differences in speed exist from country to country. This often reflects differences in the underlying network architecture. The following diagram illustrates speed differences reported by the ITU by country and technology.
