Applicants who do not have the formal academic training to qualify for the desired program will be assessed according to the guidelines consistent with those of the British Columbia Council of Admissions and Transfer, Centre for Curriculum Transfer and Technology, the Provincial PLA Steering Committee, and the Provincial Institutional Coordinators Working Group.
Flexible admission requirements may include, but are not limited to:
- presentation of a portfolio containing evidence of learning already achieved
- demonstration of competence before an objective observer
- examinations and questionnaires
- interviews
- references and letters of validation from persons familiar with the learner's skills to demonstrate appropriate skill and knowledge levels for admission.
The method of assessment and level of detail required will vary with each applicant.
The objective in all cases is to recognize prior learning accomplishments and to assure a high probability of successful program completion for both the learner and the university. If specific weaknesses are revealed, remedial programs may be recommended, either in RRU's Foundation Program or in one offered by a partner institution.
Admission through flexible admissions assessment does not imply that the learner has achieved the equivalent of a formal credential, such as a diploma or a bachelor's degree.
