A visit to Tryon Palace Historic Sites & Gardens -- whether you take full advantage of the two-day Governor's Pass or have only a couple of hours to spare -- is always informative and fun.

When is the best time to visit?

The house museums of Tryon Palace Historic Sites & Gardens are open 360 days each year, so the “indoor” experience is always available.

The gardens change seasonally, with lovely displays year-round and particularly spectacular shows in the spring and fall. If gardening is your passion, you might want to visit in the spring, with its abundance of tulips, and the fall, which is rich in chrysanthemums. But there is also much to enjoy and to learn from in our summer and winter garden displays.

The Christmas season is lavishly celebrated at Tryon Palace Historic Sites & Gardens, and it is one of our most popular seasons. Our house museums are decorated inside and out. Candlelight tours are truly magical. And this is the only time of the year to see our Jonkonnu Celebration, a North Carolina African American Christmas tradition dating back to the 18th century.

The 4th of July is also a special time at the Palace.
Remember, anytime that you visit there will be much to see and do.

Preplanning some or all of your visit will let you use your time in the most enjoyable and productive way. Use the handy menu on the left to help you make good choices about your visit to Tryon Palace Historic Sites & Gardens and to the New Bern area.

You may want to extend you trip to allow time to experience both the Palace and the surrounding community. Remember: North Carolina Begins Here.
