Training a Dog
When
you go out with you pet dog to dog park, first you must training your dog, how
can you traine your dog? Below is the info about it.
Too many dogs are given up after their normal, easily modifiable behaviors
are allowed to become problems. But it doesn't have to be this way. To prevent
your dog from becoming a sad statistic, take your dog—and your family—to
a professional dog training class. A good training class is a fun, social activity
that helps your dog become a well-behaved, safe, and valued family member. This
information will help you find the dog trainer and class environment that best
fits your budget and needs.
Why is training my dog a necessity?
As a dog owner, one of the first questions you may ask is, Does my new companion
need training? Yes, and so do you! Whether you are intentionally teaching him
or not, your canine friend is always learning—and this is true not just
for puppies but also for older, adult dogs. If you do not teach your pet your
rules, he will invent his own. Training allows caregivers to safely and humanely
control their dog's behavior. Positive training enhances the bond between dog
and owner, and helps ensure that your dog will respond happily to your instructions.

Understanding rabbit food labels
Complete - Nutritionally complete. Theoretically can be fed alone, but we always recommend
feeding hay as well. Be warned - there are some very dubious rabbit foods labelled
as "complete" which are nothing of the sort. Stick to a reputable and
well known brand. If you are forced to feed a complete food by itself because
your rabbit won't eat hay, check that fibre is at least 18–20% and protein
12-15%. Complete foods are only complete if the rabbit eats every single bit of
it. Example - Russell Rabbit
Complementary - Require the addition of hay and sometimes green food to provide
a balanced diet. Most British rabbit foods are complementary; many foods labelled
as "complete" should really be labelled as complementary!
Rabbit Mix (also called coarse mix) - Muesli-type mix of various ingredients.
Popular with owners and some rabbits; wide selection available; possibly better
chewing exercise for the rabbit than pellets, but this is not an issue if you're
also feeding hay as you should be. If the rabbit only eats its favourite bits
then selective eating becomes a problem and dietary imbalances can occur. This
will also be an issue if you have two rabbits living together and each eats different
components. Examples - Russell Rabbit; Burgess Suparabbit.
Rabbit Pellets - Much more popular in the US than here. British rabbit owners
complain that pellets look "boring" - which is a daft reason for rejecting
a potentially good feeding option - after all, grass looks pretty boring to us
but it's the best food for rabbits! Bunnies who are used to eating mix tend to
turn their noses up at pellets, but they do eliminate the problems of selective
feeding. Examples - Spillers range; Hagen.
Extruded foods - All the advantages of pellets but with much greater palatability.
Tends to increase water consumption. Increasingly popular; suits many rabbits.
Example - Burgess Excel; Pretty Bird rabbit food.

Before You Select a Pet
A common mistake is bringing home a pet on an impulse - without fully understanding
the level of commitment involved. For instance, lots of people buy bunnies at Easter time without giving a thought to the 5- to
10-year commitment they'll be making to the animal and what that commitment will
mean to the family. That's why it's important to talk to all family members and
discuss expectations and responsibilities. Talk about how much care the pet will
require and what role each family member plans to play. Things to consider include
who will feed and groom the pet, and who will clean its living space.
Also anticipate the pet's medical and exercise needs. Consider how big your
pet will grow and make sure you have enough space. Cats, birds, rabbits, and other
small animals can generally adapt to any space, but dogs need lots of room to
run and jump. Do you have a yard? Who will walk the dog regularly? Who will bathe
and groom him? Take a realistic look at the lifestyle of your family members.
If you work long hours and the kids stay after school for soccer practice, who
will care for the pet in your absence? What if you travel a lot - what will you
do with your pets then?

Appliance Tips
Is your refrigerator near the stove, dishwasher or heat vents? Move it, if
you can; you'll save money and energy.
- Vacuum refrigerator coils four times a year. Dirt and pet hair build up and
that makes your refrigerator work harder to keep your food cool.
- Remember that old test…If you easily can pull a dollar bill from the
refrigerator door, change the door gasket. You are losing cold air.
- Use the energy saver option on your dishwasher. And clean the filter after
each washing.
- Wash clothing in cold water whenever possible. And, since a clothes dryer
is one of the home's biggest users of energy, how about letting Mother Nature
blow your clothing dry on occasion.
- Clean your dryer filter after each use.

Home Appliance Repair
An appliance, small or large, wh en properly maintained lasts for years and little repair is needed. When a household
appliance stops working, we have two choices - repair the appliance or replace
it. The following tips may help make a decision:
- Get hold of the owner's manual and check up the troubleshooting tips. This
is the first step in appliance repair. If you don't have the owner's manual, look
up the manufacturer's website on the Internet. The manufacturer's website may
have some tips on appliance repair and also an online version of the manual.
- The age of the appliance and the warranty period must be noted. If the appliance
is still under the warranty period, and the problem is covered, the cost of repair
may be less, or sometimes no cost is involved.
- The appliance repair cost is considered reasonable when it is about 50% of
the price of a new appliance.
- If the appliance is quite old, the replacement parts may be hard to find.
This would mean buying a new appliance rather than repair an old one.

Tips on buying a home appliance
- Efficiency and durability are the two most important factors to consider when
buying a major appliance. Style is not the only
criteria to selecting a home appliance. The amount of energy and water a home
appliance consumes and the cost of maintaining should be taken into account. A
major appliance like a refrigerator is tested for energy consumption, but how
it is used and maintained also plays an important part in its performance.
- Check the energy efficiency rating of major appliances like refrigerators
and air conditioners.
- Many websites and consumer publications offer comparisons based on home appliance
brand names, features and prices. Before buying a major appliance, spend some
time on researching these comparisons.
- Make sure each appliance has adequate space (in the kitchen or utility room,
wherever you propose to place it).

Air Conditioning Energy Saving Tips
Appliance, such as dishwasher, refrigerator, wall ovens, microwave ovens and vacuum cleaners,
when you use them help you to finish some works, but at the same time you must
pay these bills, so you must learn saving energy if you want to pay less bills.
During warm weather, your home is more comfortable when you use your air conditioner.
Comfortable surroundings can be more affordable with some simple maintenance.
Here are a few tips to help keep your air conditioner's energy consumption down:
- Set the thermostat at 78° or higher - a reasonably comfortable and energy
efficient indoor temperature. A 78° setting will save you about 15 percent
or more on cooling costs over a 72° setting.
- Don't set the thermostat at a colder than normal setting. It will not cool
the house any faster but, as with the furnace, will simply overshoot the desired
temperature and waste energy.
- Clean or replace filters at least once a month.
- Place lamps or other heat-generating devices away from the thermostat since
it could sense this heat and make the air conditioner run longer than needed.
- Room air conditioners should fit snugly to window frames. Close heat ducts
in the room, and remove or seal up the unit with plastic after the cooling season.
- Have your central air conditioning unit checked and tuned when you have your
furnace serviced.
- Periodically clean and vacuum the grills, coils and cooling fins on the outside
unit and keep them clear of leaves and other obstructions.

Small Appliance Tips
Solution:
Small appliances are indispensable in the kitchen. If you need some easy ways
to keep yours clean and running well, these ideas are for you!
1. To clean and sharpen the blades on your coffee grinder, pour half a cup of
uncooked rice into the grinder and then run it for a minute or so.
2. To keep electric and manual can openers turning smoothly, run a piece of
waxed paper through the blades.
3. Get all of the food out of your blender by throwing a handful of ice cubes
and some lukewarm soapy water into it. Turn it on and let it run on high for a
couple of minutes. The ice scours the blades and can get all of the hard to reach
areas nice and clean!

Dehumidifiers and Moisture
Appliances help us some, like washing machine, help us washing clothes, juicer,
help us get the fruit juicer, rice cookers, help us cook rice, and so on, so,
dehumidifiers help us some too.
Moisture in your home can be a problem when there is either too much or too
little. Why do remove humidity to your homes and what is humidity? Humidity is
the amount of moisture or water vapor in the air. People tend to feel more comfortable
when the relative humidity is within a certain range (between 35-55 percent).
High levels of humidity can cause a room to feel stuffy and can also create an
environment in which biological contaminants can thrive. High levels of moisture
can also affect your home by causing wood to rot and condensation to form on windows.
Moisture is often added or removed from indoor air to make a room feel more comfortable.
Moisture can enter the home in many ways. Outside sources include the soil,
surface water and outside air. Breathing and perspiration by you and your family
are a major source of moisture. So is showering, bathing, drying clothes, washing
dishes and cooking. Most homes have more than one source of moisture. A little
prevention can keep excess moisture out of your home. Identify moisture sources
in your home and try to correct them. A dehumidifier can be used to help control
the humidity in your home.

Find the lawn Mower for your lawn
Which type of lawn mower is best for your lawn? Here's what to think about
for each:
Manual-reel mowers. Pushing these simple mowers turns a series of curved blades
that spin with the wheels. Reel mowers are
quiet, inexpensive, and nonpolluting. They're also relatively safe to operate
and require little maintenance other than periodic blade adjustment and sharpening.
On the downside, our tests have shown that most can't cut grass higher than 11/2
inches or trim closer than 3 inches around obstacles. Cutting swaths just 14 to
18 inches wide are also a drawback. Consider them for small, flat lawns a quarter
acre or less. Price range: $100 to about $250.
Electric mowers. These push-type walk-behind mowers use an electric motor to
drive a rotating blade. Both corded and cordless versions start with the push
of a button, produce no exhaust emissions, and, like reel mowers, require little
maintenance aside from sharpening. Most offer a side or rear grass catcher, and
many can mulch--a process where clippings are recut until they're small enough
to hide unobtrusively within the lawn. But electrics tend to be less powerful
than gas mowers and less adept at tackling tall or thick grass and weeds. What's
more, their narrow, 18- to 19-inch swaths take a smaller bite than most gas-powered mowers.
Gasoline-powered mowers. These include push as well as self-propelled models
with driven wheels. Most have a 3.5- to 6.5-hp four-stroke engine and a cutting
swath 20 to 22 inches wide, allowing them to do more work with each pass and handle
long or thick grass and weeds. And all can mow as long as there's fuel in the
tank. But gas mowers are relatively noisy and require regular maintenance.

Hair Dryers
There
are some useful appliance in our life, such as Refrigeration, Fireplace, Furnace,
Exhaust, Purifier, Stove, Lamp, Mixer, Toaster, here I will support some info
of hair dryers for you. Many people are familiar with the daily routine of washing,
drying, and styling their hair. Although hair will eventually dry on its own if
given enough time, most people reach for a hair dryer to speed up the process.
Hair dryers are simply electrical heating elements and fans, both easy components
to test and repair.
Some call the hair dryer the most indispensable gadget invented by mankind.
Others call it a curse. Most of us are somewhere in between; it's handy—when
it works. If it doesn't, bring it to a meeting of the Fix-It Club.
An electric hair dryers produce an instant blast of hot air, yet many are light
enough to be held in one hand so the air can be directed. The dryer contains a
very long coil of thin wire that develops heat. A jet of air blown by a fan behind
the heating element carries away this heat. If the air flow is obstructed and
the air becomes too hot, a thermostat cuts off the power.

How does a bread machine work?
All bread machines are similarly designed-a metal box with an area for programming,
much like a microwave. There is a powerful stirring blade to mix and knead the
dough right in the pan in which it will be baked. The machine sets the right temperatures
to proof and bake the bread. All you need to do is measure the ingredients into
the bread pan, select the appropriate cycle, and remove the bread when baking
is complete. Variations in design and the addition of special features, however,
are important considerations when selecting your machine. Basic Features of Bread
Machines
Loaf Size and Shape
The shape of the loaf is one of the most obvious features of a bread machine.
Bread machines generally produce a nontraditionally shaped loaf-tall with a rounded
top. One manufacturer has introduced a bread machine that makes a traditionally
shaped loaf. Shape varies from round to square or rectangular. New bread machine
owners are often surprised to see a hole in the bottom of the loaf left by the
stirring paddle. The indentation is a trademark of bread baked in a bread machine
and does not affect the quality of the bread.
Most bread machines are classified as 1, 1.5, or 2 pound machines. This refers
to the weight of the finished loaf of bread, although finished loaf weight may
be slightly less and varies according to ingredients used. Generally, larger loaves
use up to four cups of flour, while the smallest loaves require about two cups
of flour. Larger bread machines also make smaller loaves, although using the full
capacity produces the best loaf. A removable bread pan makes cleanup easier because
the pan is filled and emptied outside of the unit, reducing the chance that crumbs
and flour will fall into the cavity of the machine. A few models have a slide-out
tray in the bottom of the unit for easier cleaning.
Some models now feature a two-loaf capacity. This may be too much bread at
one time for small families, but larger families may find it a real convenience.
Consider how much bread your family consumes. Remember, unlike commercial breads,
your homemade bread will not contain preservatives and will have a shorter shelf life.

How to Buy a Coffee maker or Espresso Machine
Brewing the perfect cup can start your morning off right, while downing a burned
cup can make you walk sideways for hours. What type of machine is right for you
depends on how rich you like your coffee, how much kitchen counter space you have
and how much you consume.
Steps:
Consider how much coffee you drink to determine whether you want a 4-cup or as
big as a 12-cup machine. The price of coffee makers varies greatly--anywhere from
$75 for a basic model to $1,000 for one that grinds your beans, makes both coffee
and espresso, and has a timer.
Want the best flavor? Go for a Moka pot, which makes black espresso on your
stovetop (without foam or froth), or a French press, which makes thick and sometimes
grainy coffee by hand. Drip coffeemakers are becoming more refined as well.
Determine if you have the space and cash for a big, gleaming piston-style espresso
machine, or should you buy a compact and economical Krups espresso maker? Espresso
machines can run from $100 to $500, and upward of $1,000 for professional and
European stainless-steel piston types.

How to Make a Solar Power Generator for Less Than $300
Using parts easily available from your local stores, you can make a small solar power
generator for $250 to $300. Great for power failures and life outside the power
grid. Power your computer, modem, vcr, tv, cameras, lights, or DC appliances anywhere
you go. Use in cabins, boats, tents, archaeological digs, or while travelling
throughout the third world. Have one in the office store room in case of power
failures in your highrise. I keep mine in my bedroom where it powers my cd player,
turntable, lights, modem, laptop, and (ahem) a back massager. I run a line out
the window to an 8" x 24" panel on the roof.
1. Buy yourself a small solar panel. For about $100.
2. Buy yourself a battery. Get any size deep cycle 12 volt lead/acid battery.
Look for bargains, it should cost about $50-60.
3. Get a battery box to put it in for $10. Buy a 12 volt DC meter. Radio Shack
has them for about $25.
4. Buy a DC input.
5. But if you want to run AC appliances, you will have to invest in an inverter.
This will convert the stored DC power in the battery into AC power for most of
your household appliances. For $50.
6. Use a drill to attach the meter and DC input to the top of the box.
7. Use insulated wire to attach the meter to the wingnut terminals on the battery.
Connect the negative (-) pole first. Only handle one wire at a time. Connect the
DC inlet to the battery in the same way. Connect the solar panel to the battery
in the same way.
8. Close the lid (I use a bungee cord to keep it tight). Put the solar panel
in the sun. It takes 5-8 hours to charge a dead battery; 1-3 hours to top off
a weak one. It will run radios, fans, and small wattage lights all night, or give
you about 5 hours of continuous use at 115 volt AC, or about an hour boiling water...

Lower Your Monthly Energy Bill
- Maintain the right temperature in your refrigerator and freezer. Refrigerators
can use up to 20 percent of the total electricity
in your home. To keep your power bills low, don't use more energy than necessary.
The refrigerator should be set between 38oF (3oC) and 42oF (6oC). The freezer
should be set between 0oF (-31oC) and 5oF (-26oC).
- Keep them full. Surprisingly, it takes less energy to cool a full refrigerator
or freezer than an empty one, provided it is not so jammed that air can't circulate.
Fill extra space with gallon jugs of water placed in the back of both the freezer
and refrigerator. You can drink the water and use the ice in portable coolers.
- Open the refrigerator door less. Every time the door opens, warm air rushes
in. Energy must be used to cool it back down. If you're cooking, get out all the
refrigerated items you need for the recipe at the same time. And when you're finished
with them, put them back in the refrigerator at the same time, too.

Clothes Washer tips
When laundry day comes, wash only full loads, but do not overload your machine.
Wash smaller loads only when you have a small-load attachment or variable water levels.
Use the correct amount of detergent. Too many bubbles make your machine work
harder and use more energy.
Presoak or use the soak cycle when washing heavily soiled garments like your
kid's soccer uniform. You'll avoid two washings and save energy.
Up to 90 percent of the cost of washing clothes comes from heating the water,
so use hot water only for very dirty clothes, and always use cold water in the
rinse cycle.

Washing Machine maintenance tips
- Sides and front of washer cabinets, and some tops, are synthetic enamel, which
will be damaged quickly by ammonia,
chlorine bleach, abrasives, and solvents.
- Do not spray pre-wash soil and stain removers onto garments on top of washer,
for they can corrode painted and plastic parts such as the control panel, etc.
- Change in-line water filters annually to ensure an unrestricted flow of water
to your washer. There is a filter at both the hot and cold water inlets, just
inside the intake ports where the supply connectors attach.
- Each year, check that water supply hoses are not kinked or bent-replace if
bulging or unable to straighten out any kinks. . For best results, replace with
braided, flexible stainless steel connectors such as NO-BURST.
- When checking supply hoses, also inspect the drain hose. Replace if creased or crimped.

Dishwashers
General Information
Load your dishwasher properly following manufacturer's directions. Use dishwasher
detergents only in recommended amounts. Never put any other cleaning compound
inside a dishwasher, as it could interfere with the dishwashing action.
A dishwasher should always be plugged into a grounded outlet or wired direct.
If hot water has not been used in the house for 2 weeks or longer, open all hot
water faucets and let them run several minutes before using the dishwasher, or
any other electrical appliance connected to hot water.
Care & Cleaning
Dishwasher interiors are self-cleaning. If a stain does occur, clean with dishwasher
detergent and water. Wear rubber glove to protect your hands from very alkaline
detergents.....

Range cleaning tips
- To clean a "not so messy" oven, place a small bowl of ammonia on
the top shelf and a bowl of boiling water on the bottom shelf of an cold oven.
Leave them there overnight, then wipe clean in the morning.
- Baking soda is a safe, gentle abrasive. Pour onto a sponge and wipe.
- Clean the stovetop with white vinegar. Grease and grime disappear leaving it
streak-free and shiny.
Refrigerator cleaning tips
- If your vacuum cleaner hose attachment will not fit under your refrigerator
to clean the condenser coils, try using a rubber band to hold an old sock or rag
to the end of a yardstick. Slide the stick under the refrigerator to clean the
condenser coils
- Use warm water to clean the plastic and glass portions of your refrigerator.
Hot water may cause them to break.
- Kill mildew and prevent it from returning by wiping down the walls and shelves
with vinegar.

Pet Safety
Never leave your companion animals behind if you have to evacuate your home.
If your home is too dangerous for you, it is too dangerous for your pets. Evacuation
shelters do not usually accept animals because of health & safety regulations.
Implement these suggestions for the safety of your animals. Above all, please
PLAN AHEAD!
- PROPERLY IDENTIFY YOUR ANIMALS. Securely fasten a current identification
tag or license to your pet's collar. Also attach, or write in indelible ink directly
on the collar, the phone number of a friend or relative who lives outside the
danger zone. This will help if you animal becomes separated from you. Keep photos
of pets with you for ID purposes as well.
- CARRY A LIST OF EMERGENCY TELEPHONE NUMBERS WITH YOU. Please include
your veterinarian, local animal control, local animal shelter, Red Cross, and
any other individual or group you might need to contact during a disaster. Remember,
land line and/or cell phones may not be functioning.
- MAKE CONTINGENCY ARRANGEMENTS WITH A RELATIVE OR FRIEND. If you know
someone who lives out of the likely problem area but close enough to be convenient,
talk to them ahead of time. You may be able to deliver your pets to safety in
an emergency.

Traveling With Pets
If
you want to have your pet travel with you or you are moving to a new location
here are some travel tips:
- If the pet travels with you, it will retain a sense of identity. However,
pets can become frightened and bolt away from you out of open doors and windows.
Keep your pet on a leash when outside your car or hotel.
- Whether your pet travels with you or by another means it should wear a special
identification tag in addition to its regular one. Write the pet's name, your
name, the person to contact at the destination, their phone number, a destination
address, or that of a friend or relative, in case you want to be reached.
- Except for seeing eye dogs accompanying blind persons, pets are not permitted
on buses and trains. Notify the airline, bus, or train company that a seeing eye
dog is accompanying you.

Top 10 Pet Health Tips
Sit, stay, heel, roll over. Though you may think of Fido as one of the kids,
training is a necessary part of puppy care. A well-trained dog is often more welcome
then an unruly one, and subsequently can spend more time with its owners without
getting into trouble.
You are what you eat. A balanced diet is important to help maintain your dog's
or cat's health. What is healthy for humans isn't necessarily healthy for pets
- table scraps can't fulfill their dietary needs. Foods specifically designed
for cats and dogs and approved by the Association of American Feed Control Officials
will help provide your dog or cat with a balanced diet.
Beggin' for a workout. Exercise is as important for pets as it is for people.
Not only does it help prevent obesity and other health problems, but it also builds

Proper Bird Care
1.Avoid
overcrowding. Housing too many birds in a cage that is too small will lead to
sanitation problems.
2.Clean food and water bowls daily.
3.Kepp fresh food and water in the bowls at all times.
4.Provide adequate ventilation in and around your bird's living quarters. The
temperature shoulds be kept between 60 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit, and cages should
be placed clear of any drafts in the room.

Winter Tips For Pets
Winter can be a tough time for pets -- especially outdoor pets. Here are some
tips to keep them safe and comfortable during cold weather.
- If you keep a dish of water outside for your outdoor pet during winter, make
sure the water doesn't freeze by adding de-icer, which can be found in a pet supply
catalog or at a hardware store.
- Keep your pet away from antifreeze that may be found in your garage or driveway.
Antifreeze is poisonous to pets, even ingested in small amounts. Also take care
to protect your pet from road salt, which can produce burns on the animal's feet
and tongue.
- Consider dressing your dog up in a dog sweater during the winter season. Such
sweaters are warm and can protect the dog's hair from picking up chemicals.
- Intense cold and intense heat are harmful to pets. Remove snow and ice from
your pet as soon as possible and prevent burns by limiting time spent in front
of the fire.
