Guidelines for Cable Television Public Service Announcements

GCI believes, that as a corporate citizen, it is our responsibility to support worthwhile charities and organizations which contribute to the quality of life for all Alaskans. Accordingly, GCI has set aside air time in its cable television system to be used in the public interest.

Public service announcements must appeal to a broad audience, serve the public's interest and be commercial free in nature. GCI airs PSAs on a space-available basis and does not charge for the air time.

GCI Cable provides services in the following areas: Anchorage, Bethel, Cordova, Fairbanks, Homer, Juneau, Kenai, Ketchikan, Kodiak, Kotzebue, Nome, Petersburg, Seward, Sitka, Soldotna, Valdez, and Wrangell. For a map showing these locations, click here.

Qualifications

GCI gives priority to local 501 (C)(3) charitable organizations for free TV announcements concerning Alaska and Alaskans.

Qualifying non-profit organizations and events must benefit the community as a whole. Events must be free and open to the public. PSA messages should conform to the standards of the local community. Submission of PSAs does not guarantee telecast.

General Information

Public service announcements are aired on a time available basis. It is recommended that video PSAs be submitted two weeks prior to air time start date and they will not be scheduled for more than two weeks beyond the original start dates. Scanner PSA deadlines vary per cable locations.

Nonprofit organizations wishing to guarantee telecast of video commercial by purchasing advertising may qualify for reduced rates. Call (907) 786-9391 for more details.
