WELCOME TO THE IAOM WEBSITE
Summer is a wonderful time of year to experience new activities, set new goals and enjoy sharing new found skills. The International Association of Orofacial Myology (IAOM) would like to help expand your knowledge about orofacial myology disorders including: tongue thrust, improper mouth posture and incorrect swallowing patterns. This website offers you the opportunity to learn about orofacial myofunctional disorders and their resulting consequences. To gain a better understanding about the importance of eliminating incorrect oral habits we encourage you to read "What's Orofacial Myology" and the "Parents Page". Our members will be happy to answer any of your questions. A complete listing of the membership can be found in the Membership Directory.
WELCOME
The International Association of Orofacial Myology (IAOM) welcomes you to our home page. IAOM is the professional and certification organization for the Orofacial Myology Practitioner. This is the resource site for IAOM members and those interested in myofunctional disorders and those wanting membership and career information.
CORE STATEMENT
The orofacial myologist is trained to evaluate and treat patients with a
variety of oral and facial muscle dysfunctions. Certified Orofacial
Myologists (COM) or orofacial myologists in the process of becoming
certified may also have additional training in speech/language
pathology, dental hygiene or other health related fields that the IAOM
has determined to be within the scope of practice of orofacial myology.
MISSION OF THE IAOM
To improve the health of the
public by advancing the art and science of orofacial myology; by
increasing the awareness of and ensuring the access to quality
primary health care for the treatment of orofacial myofunctional
disorders; by maintaining the highest standards possible through
promotion of educational opportunities, increasing the body of
knowledge through scientific research, administration of the
certification process, representing the interests of orofacial
myologists, and promoting interdisciplinary linkages.

A SPECIAL TRIBUTE TO
SAM
The IAOM Board
of Directors dedicated the IAOM Web Site to its original Web Master Sam Egdorf who lost his battle with cancer. The IAOM is eternally indebted to Sam for
his dedication and ability. It would have been
a long time before our small organization could have
afforded to pay a professional for what Sam
did at no charge.
Our website has
greatly improved our communication between members. It has also allowed
us to emerge into
the 21st century on par with far larger organizations.
He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Samuel S. Egdorf ( 24 Jan.1933 - 30 Oct.1999)
