UK EARLY WARNINGS OF SEVERE WEATHER

These warnings are issued to help the public make informed decisions that protect their life, welfare and property in the event of severe weather over the next few days. They are issued when fixed weather thresholds are met. See the guide for more details.

Current warnings:

Heavy rain
Issued by the Met Office at 09:25 on Wednesday, 5 July 2006.

The probability of disruption due to severe weather conditions in part of the United Kingdom within the next 24 hours is 80 percent.

This warning is an update to that issued at 09:30 on Tuesday 4 July 2006.

Bands of heavy rain and thunderstorms are affecting some southern counties of England at time of issue and Flash messages are in force for these areas. However, further development is expected through today, Wednesday 5 July, as the heavy rain and thunderstorms move northwards and westwards and then become slow moving. Localised rainfall totals of up to 75mm are possible leading to the risk of flash flooding. The thundery weather and torrential nature of the rain is likely to ease on Thursday morning.

This will be the final warning for this event and further information will be supplied by Flash messages.

Make sure you know what to do when severe weather is forecast, follow our severe weather advice. For more detailed weather information in your area, contact Weathercall.
