About the Author

Michael Bright, B.Sc., C.Biol., MI.Biol., is head of Development at the BBC's world-renowned Natural History Unit in Bristol, England. He has worked as a radio and television producer for the BBC, producing science and natural history programs since 1971. Michael has written more than 50 books and many articles on science, natural history, and environmental issues both for children and for a more general readership. He has also been consultant editor on numerous prestigious animal encyclopedia. Michael's interest in wildlife started at an early age with a fascination for sharks. He first saw these, and other sea creatures, being unloaded from the Marine Biological Association's research vessel in Plymouth, England. Since then his passion has grown to include the entire animal kingdom. Jonathan Elphick, B.Sc., has a degree in zoology and is a Fellow of The Zoological Society of London. He has had more than 30 years' experience as a natural history writer, editor, and consultant, specializing in ornithology. Among the many titles he has worked on, his guidebook to British birds was highly acclaimed, winning BirdWatching magazine's award for the best field guide to British birds for 1997. Jen Green, Ph.D., received a doctorate from the University of Sussex in the Department of English and American Studies in 1982.
