7/8/2006 A Family Grows
The Gabbert's from Ashland, KY and part-time Oak Island residents, were visiting SOAR today. They came just to see SOAR and meet the animals and had no intention of adopting. But, things didn't quite work out that way. Another couple brought a little beagle in that they wanted SOAR to find a home for. The Gabbert's saw this beagle and decided they wanted her to become a part of their family. This must have set a world record for the least amount of time a dog was ever at SOAR. Pictured above are Susan, Rick, Laura, and Martha Gabbert and of course, their new family addition, BB the Beagle.

7/8/2006 World Champion
We're very proud of our owner, Jeannine Bicknell's, granddaughter. She is the world champion, that's right, world champion, waveboarder. Please visit www.dallasfriday.com and read about her and all of her accomplishments. Also, click on the link and vote for her for the ESPY Female Action Athlete of the Year. It would be much appreciated.

7/6/2006 - Website Problems
You may have noticed we've not had any website updates for a while. We've had trouble with our website hosting arrangement. We've switched hosting companies now and this switch has taken more time than we had hoped for. Much more. But now we are back on the air and able to update our site. Thanks for staying with us. |

6/11/2006 - Paw Jam
We had a lot of fun at Paw Jam yesterday. Lots of people came out. And volunteers. And there were so many great dogs there. All breeds and shapes and sizes. The weather was just great. As was the music. And just everything. The Golden Retriever Rescue deserves a lot of credit for putting on such a great event. It takes a lot of work and planning and everything went just perfectly. It was fun.
We took Joey with us and he was the only current SOAR dog there. We say current because there were lots of dogs there that had graduated from SOAR. We were hoping that someone would see Joey and want to adopt him. He was a perfect little angel. He behaved just great. He met, and was so friendly with so many different dogs. One would think an event like this might be a little overwhelming to a dog that doesn't get to socialize very much with other dogs but Joey handled it just fine. No one adopted him but everybody liked him. Maybe someone that met him will keep him in the back of their mind and decide later to give him a try in their own home. |
6/3/2006 - Crystal Got Adopted!
Well, that sure didn't take long. PawPrints Magazine found Crystal a new home in record time. A nice man who saw Crystal on the PawPrints Cover and read about her knew that she was the dog for him. He once had a husky and loves the breed. He is a painter and will take Crystal with him to job sites and will also take Crystal out on his boat. It sounds like a perfect home for Crystal.
And Crystal, if you happen to read this, here is a personal note straight to you. Don't mess this up. We want you to be a perfect little angel in your new home. |

Look at our beautiful cover model. She's Crystal and we love her so much. PawPrints Magazine thought she was beautiful too and made her their June issue cover girl. We're so proud of her. And so thankful to PawPrints Magazine, not only for selecting Crystal, but for all the help they give to us in trying to find homes for our animals. We could not begin to count the number of animals that we've adopted because their new parents first saw them in PawPrints. Hopefully, somebody who would love a beautiful and totally gentle shepherd will see Crystal and decide she is the dog for them. They won't regret it. So, please click on our links to PawPrints to see Crystal on the cover and to read and see all the other shelter animals featured therein. And to Kelly and Diane, PawPrints founders and owners, SOAR is so indebted to you and so appreciative of your work. Thank you Kelly and Diane. |
