ICBF plans help desk to offer assistance to needy workers

Indian ambassador Dr George Joseph has appealed to the members of the Indian Community Benevolent Fund (ICBF) to pay more attention to help desk the needy Indians in Qatar who are in distress.

Dr Joseph, while addressing the annual general meeting of the ICBF at the ICC here on Friday, lauded the efforts of the Indian community in Qatar in organising various charitable programmes to support the lesser fortunate compatriots. A help desk on a daily basis to offer assistance to workers is one of the plans being mooted.

The AGM unanimously elected Nilangshu Dey as help desk president of the management committee for the next two year term. A K Usman, K E Kareem Abdullah, Siby Joseph, Jaideep Pandey, Usha Chouksey and Veni Maroli were elected to the management committee. Thiaga Rajan, vice chairman of ICAI, is the new auditor.

Dey said various sub committees would be formed soon to streamline a number of programmes for the benefit of the needy Indians in the country. "We are planning to set up a help desk to attend to the problems of people on a daily basis," he said.

The AGM also passed some amendments in the ICBF's bye laws so that the Chief Patron (Indian ambassador) could nominate one representative each from Al Khor, Mesaieed and Dukhan as ex-officio members in the management committee. Another amendment stipulates that advisory and other council members should be life members of ICBF.

N V Khader, vice-president, presented the annual report and help desk treasurer Rajeswar presented the audited financial statement. Vaman Maroly read out the minutes of the last AGM.

The meeting was also attended by Rajinder Bhagat, Minister (Political), CCO (Chief coordinating officer) of ICBF and the second secretary at the embassy Ramesh Chandra and chairman of the advisory council Hassan Chougule. Jatinder Bajaj proposed a vote of thanks.

CSC to provide help desk and desktop services to Air Products in Asia

CSC's help desk and managed desktop offerings comprise a full suite of services that allow for comprehensive end-to-end management of the client end-user computing environment.

Computer Sciences Corporation has signed an agreement with Air Products and Chemicals Inc of Allentown, Pa., to provide selected information technology (IT) services. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Under the agreement, CSC will provide help desk and desktop services, as well as the company's SupportSoft user self-service solution, help desk to Air Products personnel in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan.

CSC will also supply Air Products employees around the globe with SupportSoft and with off-hours English-language help desk support from CSC's facility in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The help desk and managed desktop offerings include CSC's SupportSoft user self-service functionality, which drives further efficiency by providing "help desk type" services through "one click" fixes and ready access to a broad array of help desk topics via the Web.

Pension help desk launched

Elders Helpline, a joint project of Bangalore City Police and Nightingales Medical Trust (NMT) is launching a new service, Pension help desk, to facilitate underprivileged senior citizens to get old age pension from the government easily.

According to NMT, those above 65 years, help desk below the poverty line, without any family support can make use of this service. The State government is increasing old age pension from Rs 100 to Rs 200 per month. But in Bangalore, out of two lakh eligible elders, only 34,425 are actually getting the benefit due to lack of awareness .

At the Pension help desk, elders will get all necessary assistance free of cost. Services will include issue of application forms, assistance in filling the forms, getting medical certificates, attestation by Gazetted officers, opening bank accounts and the necessary follow-up.

Pension help desk will be open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 10 am and 4 pm.
