City Council

The City Council, as representatives of the residents of Del Mar, sets City policy, determines budget priorities, allocates City resources, and hears appeals from decisions of the Design Review Board and Planning Commission.   The City Council appoints the City Manager to manage the City and the City Attorney to provide legal advice and ensure compliance with local, State and Federal law.

Council members are elected by the voters of Del Mar.  Elections are held in November of even-numbered years.  In order to be eligible to run for election, a potential candidate must be a resident and registered voter in the City of Del Mar and nominated by no less than 20 registered voters of the City of Del Mar.

The City Council meets the first, second and third Mondays of each month, and may hold additional special meetings as required.  Additionally, each Councilmember represents the City on numerous regional boards/organizations, as well as acts as liaisons to Council advisory committees.  Council members receive $300 per month.
