Endeavor's Journals Onsite is an enterprise-level system
that enables libraries to locally store, search and browse
electronic journals from any publisher in one location. With
Journals Onsite, patrons can search and browse through all
of the electronic journal content licensed by a library and
be taken directly to the full-text article. Journals Onsite
also enables library staff to centralize the management of
all of their full-text electronic journal collections, regardless
of source or format, with no known capacity limitations.
Journals Onsite: Delivering Permanent, One-Stop, Access
With Journals Onsite, large research institutions and consortia
gain local and centralized control of their licensed journal
content no matter the collection size or source. From journal
title to volume, issue, and individual articles, users are
able to search or browse through all of an institution's
licensed electronic journal content stored within a single
repository using a single search and browse interface. Local
control of these assets ensures full compliance with your
institution's individual security and confidentiality standards.
Journals Onsite comes with dedicated loader programs for loading
journal content from almost any journal publisher into a single
repository. These loader programs are available for all major
journal publishers, and institutions can write their own for
publishers that aren't represented. This results in one-stop
searching and browsing capabilities that were not available
to researchers using the old-style combination of diverse online
content management systems.
User-Focused Interface, Customization Abilities
Working with
the experts in interface design at Elsevier's User Centered
Design group, Endeavor has developed an interface for Journals
Onsite that draws on the best of the our existing interfaces
while incorporating feedback from usability testing it has performed
at several customer sites. Endeavor has designed
the interface to be as straightforward and user-friendly
as possible. Journals Onsite adheres to the standard, accepted
methods for journal browsing and article presentation, including
up to four levels of subject categories.
Journals Onsite also permits the customization of the user
experience through a variety of personalization and productivity
tools. These include tools such as issue and citation alerts,
usage logs for reporting, and the ability to save articles
and searches to an individual user account. For consortia,
these also include the ability to set up entitlements for each
different consortia member. Other tools enable libraries to
customize components of the system such as the logo, subject
categories, and labels within the user interface. Journals
Onsite supports the use of interfaces in languages other than
English, and is fully Unicode compliant.
Permanent Repository, Integration Capabilities
Journals Onsite gives libraries the ability to create an onsite,
de facto archive of their licensed electronic journal content
with no known capacity limits. This archive becomes a permanent
and local repository for a library's electronic journal collections
without the need for a separate archiving application. Not
only does this safeguard access to the scholarship of the
past, but it also ensures that the e-scholarship of today
will be accessible to researchers of the future. And because
it's stored locally, this archive will be as secure as the
rest of your on-site collections.
Journals Onsite easily integrates with all other Endeavor products
to create a complete digital library solution tailored to individual
library needs. It's also fully compatible with enterprise systems
such as E-books, learning management and resource planning
systems, and portals.
