UK Travel NotesBefore undertaking your UK travel, possibly one of the best things you can do for yourself is have solid understanding of what comprises the UK (the United Kingdom). England was the starting point because, by 1603, it had taken control of Ireland, Scotland and Wales - much to the annoyance of the Irish, Scots and Welsh. In 1801, "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland" was announced publicly. In 1921, the Republic of Ireland came into being leaving Northern Ireland as a British territory. In 1975, regional control of Wales and Scotland became "local." National unity in the UK is an issue and, as a visitor, we suggest that you enjoy the trip and stay out of politics. For example, if you are tempted to call someone Irish, English, Welsh, Scottish or anything else, don't. Just say "hi, where are you from?"
