A range of documents govern the Library's operations as well as
informing its projects and initiatives.
- Particular goals for the medium term are set by the Library's
Directions
- The Portfolio Budget Statement
specifies the planned outputs for the year.
- The Balanced Scorecard method is
used to measure performance
- The Collection Development Policy
defines the scope and nature of the collecting of Australian and overseas
materials within the Library.
- The Collection Disaster Plan deals with
disaster preparedness and preparation and is used by the Library as a manual in
routine disaster preparedness and prevention activities.
- Cost Recovery Impact Statement
- The Preservation Policy
addresses the dilemma of library preservation - to make information accessible,
while still ensuring its ultimate survival.
- The Electronic Information
Resources Strategies and Action Plan documents the Library's proposed
strategies and actions in relation to Australian and overseas electronic
information resources.
- The Digitisation Policy
is a guide to both the digitisation of items held by the Library, and the
management of these digital objects.
- The Digital Preservation
Policy indicates the directions the Library intends to take in preserving
its own electronic collections (both born digital and digitised), and in
collaborating with others to enable the preservation of electronic information
resources.
- The Information Technology
plan is the Library's medium term plan for the expansion of its information
technology infrastructure and services to enable its strategic directions to be
achieved.
- Reader Services Policy describes the reader services the Library provides and how staff are expected to deliver them.
As a general principle the Library publishes all of its policy and
planning documents on its website as a means of sharing strategies and
approaches with users, the national and international library community and
other collecting agencies.
