Welcome to Texas Paddling Trails!

With more than 3,700 named streams, 15 major rivers and some 3,300 miles of tidal shoreline along the Gulf Coast, Texas offers myriad opportunities for paddling adventures of all types. Texas Paddling Trails is a new program to develop public paddling trails throughout the state to provide well-mapped accessible day trips in a variety of settings. TPWD paddling trails offer trails for the more experienced paddlers to less strenuous paddles that can be done by the whole family in a few hours.

Currently there are seven TPWD coastal paddling trails and one inland paddling trail, and we continue to actively seek partnerships with communities interested in developing paddling trails in their area. According to the Outdoor Industry Association, kayaking participation nationwide doubled between 1998 and 2004, with recreational and sit-on-top kayaking the fastest growing segment of the sport. Participation in canoeing also remains very strong.

The newest paddling trail is the Luling Zedler Mill Paddling Trail, which officially opens on March 29, 2006 and is the first of several planned river Texas Paddling Trails slated for development.
