What is Vascular Medicine?

Vascular Medicine is a subspecialty of Medicine that is concerned with diseases of the blood vessels.  These include:

Diseases of the arteries such as Coronary, Carotid or Peripheral Arterial Disease.

Diseases of the veins such as Varicose veins, thrombophlebitis, venous thrombosis.

Diseases of the lymphatics such as Lymphedema. Associated medical disorders such as Hypercholesterolemia, Hypertension, Diabetes, Vasculitis.

The Stanford  Program in Vascular Medicine and Biology encompasses clinical care, basic and clinical research, and educational programs in Vascular Medicine.
