![]() SEM vs Traditional MarketingWith the rapid growth of the search engine optimisation industry, traditional marketers have begun to embrace elements of online marketing as part of their overall marketing strategy. Many companies are still failing to integrate search engine marketing into their strategy, leaving crucial market segments unexploited. Knowledge gapSEM is a very unique industry as it goes a large way to bridge the gap between traditional IT and traditional marketing. However, the vast difference in the skills required for each industry has meant that this process is a slow one. Traditional marketers find themselves faced with the task of embracing technical aspects of the Internet to incorporate SEM into their marketing strategy. While many have successfully made this transition, there is still a large learning curve for those who find themselves not fully up to speed with the technical side of things. In addition there is somewhat of a mental barrier to overcome when approaching SEM - many marketers have difficulty accepting the nature of the web as there any many areas in which pose problems in terms of traditional marketing - brand protection and (SEO) copywriting for example are both very different beasts on the Internet.
