President Bush Meets With Prime Minister Maliki of Iraq
President Bush (July 25): "The Prime Minister and I spent time talking about Lebanon.... I told him that Secretary Rice has announced greater humanitarian measures for Lebanon, to include $30 million in aid.  America is concerned about the women and children who suffer in that country, concerned about the loss of innocent life. I reminded him and told him that Condi [Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice] is over there working to establish corridors to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid and central relief supplies."  White House Fact Sheet

Secretary Rice (July 25): "I had the opportunity to brief President Abbas on the efforts that we are making to bring about an urgent but enduring cease-fire in Lebanon, one that can deal with the causes of extremism that began this crisis and that can also lead to the establishment of sovereignty for the Lebanese Government throughout its territory and the ability then to act on the basis of Resolution 1559 (inaudible). And I also briefed the President on what we will be doing at the Rome conference to try and move that agenda forward."
