In the riverside town of River Junction, Captain William Canfield (Ernest Torrence) is in a dispute with powerful banker John James King (Tom McGuire), who has a brand new ferryboat. Canfield is informed that his unknown son William Canfield Jr. (Buster Keaton) will soon arrive from Boston to visit. When Willie arrives, William teaches him to work with him on his ship. Trouble starts brewing when Willie meets James King's daughter Marion (Marion Byron) and they fall in love against their fathers' wishes. But when a cyclone reaches River Junction, Willie rescues his father and his future father-in-law from the river, bringing the two families together and making young Willie the town's hero.
STEAMBOAT BILL, JR. (1928) is the last of nine independent feature films starring Buster Keaton, the brilliant physical comedian known as the Great Stone Face. It also is one of the last silent comedies.
