Sri Lanka: ICRC condemns killing of 15 aid workers and continues to assist the displaced in Trincomalee
Colombo / Geneva (ICRC) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) strongly condemns the killing of 15 national employees of the French humanitarian organization Action Contre la Faim (ACF) in the town of Muttur, Trincomalee district, Sri Lanka. The ICRC is deeply concerned about the serious deterioration of the security situation, which has severely hampered the efforts of aid workers to provide assistance for the country's most vulnerable people. "We are appalled at what happened to the ACF staff," said Yvonne Dunton, head of the ICRC's sub-delegation in Trincomalee. "This was a deliberate attack on a humanitarian organization that was doing valuable work for the people of Muttur."

Sri Lanka: ICRC assists the civilian population displaced in the Eastern Provinces
Following the fighting between the Sri Lankan security forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in Trincomalee district over the past six days, the ICRC has launched a relief operation in coordination with the Red Cross Movement (RCM), the local authorities and other humanitarian organizations.

Lebanon/Israel - ICRC Bulletin 02/2006: First ICRC aid convoy reaches Tyre
The continued heavy bombing in southern Lebanon, Beirut and other areas means that the situation there remains extremely dangerous and difficult for civilians. Large numbers of people are still leaving their homes and heading north or leaving the country altogether, either by sea or by road to neighbouring Syria. The Syrian Arab Red Crescent says that it expects another 15,000 refugees over the next couple of weeks.

Somalia: ICRC continues to aid Mogadishu wounded
Mogadishu hospitals supported by the ICRC treated over 380 casualties following heavy fighting in Somalia's capital at the beginning of this week. Most had gunshot wounds. Eleven of the 151 patients admitted to Medina hospital subsequently died from their injuries, while more than 220 people are being treated at the temporary Benadir Hospital. Both hospitals are located in Mogadishu South, where the clashes took place.
