For more than three decades, AFI has been promoting innovation and excellence through its educational programs. The world-renowned Conservatory trains the next generation of filmmakers. The AFI Screen Education Center empowers teachers and students to use the techniques of filmmaking to transform the learning process.


Screen Education Center
The AFI Screen Education Center empowers teachers to use filmmaking and media production as a way to engage students in the study of traditional subject matter, giving them new tools for expressing their knowledge and understanding. Using digital cameras and editing tools to tell stories, students who participate in AFI's Screen Education Center program prepare for jobs of the future by becoming literate in the language of the 21st Century.

Catalyst Workshop
Communicating Science and Engineering, the Workshop will focus on the screenwriting craft and practice during five intensive days, August 11 through August 15, 2006.


AFI Conservatory
The AFI Conservatory trains aspiring filmmakers in a five-semester Master of Fine Arts Program. The philosophy of the Conservatory is to learn by doing, in a hands-on, collaborative environment. Professional filmmakers serve as mentors to Fellows enrolled in the disciplines of Cinematography, Directing, Editing, Producing, Production Design and Screenwriting.


Directing Workshop for Women
The AFI Directing Workshop for Women has been training women in narrative filmmaking since 1974. Nearly 200 women have been given the opportunity to participate in this innovative and unique training program for tomorrow's directors. Some DWW alumnae include Maya Angelou (DOWN IN THE DELTA); Neema Barnette (CIVIL BRAND, 7TH HEAVEN); and Victoria Hochberg (THE CHRIS ISAAK SHOW, SEX AND THE CITY).


Film Workshops In Maryland
As Maryland's oldest community college, Montgomery College is nationally recognized for its academic and teaching excellence. The Takoma Park Campus is immediately adjacent to Washington, DC, and Silver Spring, Maryland.

The AFI Digital Content Lab (formerly AFI Enhanced TV Workshop) pairs TV producers, directors, and creative executives with technology innovators to prototype the next generation of TV programming.
