The United States –
Asia Environmental Partnership (US-AEP) concluded on September
30, 2005.
USAID's new regional environmental program in Asia started on
October 1, 2005, and you can find updates about the new program
at http://www.usaep.org/transition.html.
US-AEP was a regional program of the U.S.
Agency for International Development (USAID) that promoted sustainable
economic growth and improved the quality of life for the people
of Asia by working towards cleaner and healthier cities.
In 2005, it worked with over 300 partners that
lent their energies to meet the urban environmental challenges
of six Asian countries by implementing 67 program initiatives
focused on:
- Improving water quality and supply
- Cleaning the air
- Strengthening environmental governance
- Improving solid and hazardous waste management
US-AEP worked closely with partners on program
initiatives, and supported the implementation of activities through
flexible program tools, such as:
- Grants
- Exchanges
- Technical Assistance
Through the constructive engagement of governments,
industry, NGOs, and academic institutions, US-AEP made an impact
on the environmental challenges associated with urbanization and
industrialization in Asia. |
