Opening Day! - Cook Inlet King Salmon Fishery 2006

This Memorial Day we wanted to show you where our king salmon come from and just how well they are taken care of to insure you the highest quality. All of these pictures were taken on 5-29-2006, showing from day's beginning to day's end the activities involved in capturing, delivering, processing, and flash-freezing these delicious salmon so they can be delivered overnight to your home for your thorough enjoyment.

The Morning's Launch

After a good night's sleep, everyone wakes refreshed and excited about the opening day of Cook Inlet's king salmon fishery. A quick bite to eat, a shot of coffee, and everyone's off to the Ship Creek boat launch to go king salmon fishing for the first time this year.

The first step is taking on ice. Fisherman's Express supplies all of our fishermen with free ice to insure that the day's catch will be chilled immediately.

After the ice is loaded, the fishing boats are launched into the water where final preparations are taken for the long day of salmon fishing ahead.

Now that the fishermen are ready, off they go, speeding across Cook Inlet in search of the delicious Alaska king salmon. Some will get luckier than others, but it will be good day for everyone as the pure excitement of fishing for Alaska king salmon is felt by all.

Bringing in the Catch

After a long day of king salmon fishing the fishermen begin coming back in to port ready to deliver their day's catch directly to Fisherman's Express.

The king salmon are carefully removed from the boats and moved quickly along rolling conveyors to be sorted and counted.

A short distance from the boat launch the iced king salmon are delivered to our processing facility.

The king salmon are then weighed and moved into the primary processing room where they are immediately cleaned.

Processing the Kings

At this point, things start to get very exciting as the processing crew goes into action cleaning all the salmon.

Two fillets are cut from each salmon.

The boneless fillets are then cut into convenient portion sizes.

Once the salmon have been cleaned, they are filleted by hand.

We meticulously remove the pin bones- so that you don't have to!

The Final Touches

The finished fillet portions are then sealed in commercial grade vacuum bags for protection and long freezer life.

Vacuum packed king salmon portions are placed in our high-powered plate freezer to be flash-frozen for premium quality.

It's been a long day, but the work was worth it.

In a single day, the salmon pictured in these images were caught, delivered, processed, and flash-frozen allowing us to offer superb product of exceptional quality. They just don't get any fresher than this.
