Miro Client Profile: US DataVault

COO of US DataVault, Khena Kara, shares his rationale on why his company chose to use Jango over other content management systems.

What is the core business for USDataVault?

US DataVault provides Off-Site data backup for businesses around the world. We use software that allows companies to backup to one of our 14 data centers across the, or one of five in. The data is fully encrypted, and the cost is usually less than if a company uses a tape backup system, with pricing starting at US$25/month for 5GB.

All data backed up with us is automatically backed up to two different data centers, for added redundancy and safety.

What was the reason for using a CMS?

Our main sales force is through VAR's (Value Added Reseller), which are companies that provide services to business, such as networking, computer maintenance, network security, etc. We have signed a contract with Tiger Direct, which is the third largest online reseller of computer hardware and software in the world, to resell our services, and we needed an easy way to communicate with all of their sales people, which were spread out over eight call centers across the U.S. Instead of filling their hundreds of salespeople with emails, we needed a centralized location for them to be able to download documents about our company and software to send to potential customers, pricing information, industry related news, links, and calendar of events. This was the perfect solution.

What kind of requirements were you looking for in a CMS?

Functionality requirements included: calendar, being able to download documents, news, easy web interface, and most importantly, different groups assigned to different pages depending on logon. We wanted to use this for Tiger Direct as well as our other VAR's, therefore, we wanted to make different pages available to different VAR's, depending on their username and password.

How did you learn about Jango?

Through search engines, as well as reviews on other sites, such as opensourcecms.com, scripts.com, sourceforge.net, and hotscripts.com.

What made you decide to choose Jango?

It had everything we needed (except for a few that were down on our 'must have' features list). Also, going through the online demo, it seemed to be the easiest to administer and setup.

What were the challenges that you faced setting up your site?

A couple of coding and server issues. The manual was a little vague and did not have many of the answers needed to resolve these issues.

How did you manage to overcome those challenges?

By contacting you customer support department, and THAT was one of the best experiences we've ever had with a company. We were a bit leery about buying software from Australia, since we thought customer support would be a challenge. The tech support staff was simply AMAZING! Answered calls and emails very promptly, and always went out of their way to, not only solve the issues, but even answer some questions to make the site as customized to us as we needed it to be. We were, to say the least, VERY IMPRESSED!!!

Would you recommend Jango?

Without a doubt! Every company we talk to, if their needs call for a CMS, Jango will be the ONLY one we would recommend!
