Rooty Hill RSL

Introduction

Rooty Hill RSL is Australia's largest RSL club, with over 40,000 members. Their website had gone through a number of releases without performing any user requirements analysis.

Process

A trend analysis was initially conducted on the site to determine the most popular areas of the site and to detect any user patterns. A user survey was also conducted to gain both their current opinion on the site and to provide them an opportunity to suggest additional functionality.

Outcome

Results of the trend analysis and surveys revealed a number of customer insights such as:

  • 86% of users would renew their membership online
  • 1/4 of site visitors never made it past the Flash intro page
  • Over 60% of users access the site over dial-up connections
  • Almost half the users main reason for visiting the site was for entertainment information
  • 91% of users would be interested in booking club events online

From this information, we could make a number of recommendations to improve the site's usability levels, reduce operating costs and increase revenue.

Additional benefits of the survey included the opt-in of almost 500 new users to the Club's email newsletter and raising the awareness of additional facilities within the club.
