Rogue River Summer Chinook Fishing in full swing
8/17/06
The Rogue River estuary fishing is in full swing with lots of boats and good action. Kings are running large with lots of bright fresh Kings over 30#. This week we had one party of 2 limit with a 32# hen, 34# buck, 35# buck and a 20# hen. There are some Kings nosing up river with good catches coming from Canery Riffle. The river the last week has cooled to 68 degrees in morning and about 73 degrees in evening. Silver Salmon are starting to show in the bay. High and outgoing tides have been best for the bite. We have dates available through the Guide Shack with our 13 local guides. Call 541-247-4080 for Guide Shack or call Teve at 541-247-4138

As it usually happens, one day it fair fishing only, the next wam! Fish everywhere! Very good bite today with lots of fresh Kings Showing! There here! Best bite of the year! River flows dropped and river temps at Agness are pushing 78 to 79 degrees. Look for lots of King Salmon to stack up in the estuary until the river cools below 72 degrees. River flows are forcast to drop even more. Releases from Lost Creek Dam are forcast by the Corps of Engineers to be:
7/21 - 9/10 1850 cfs Usuall above 2000 cfs
9/11 - 9/20 1500 cfs Usually as much as 2400 cfs
9/21 - 9/30 1,000 cfs Well below average
10/1 - 10/20 850 This is the lowest at this time in several decades

It time to get your dates set! 1-800-348-4138

About 30 to 40 boats a day on the Rogue Bay, River tepuratures are rising to 75 degrees at Agness 30 miles up river from Gold Beach. Air temps in Medford upriver to hit 105 on Saturday 22 July and 107 on Sunday July 23rd this will keep the river hot and stack Chinook up in the estuary at Gold Beach. The river flows have dropped by 20% this week alsp stopping chinook from moving upriver. There is a good amount of bait and lots of birds diving on bait in the estuary. Temps at Gold Beach have been in the high 60's. We look for continued improvement in Salmon catches as the conditions needed for a great estuary fishery are moving into place, that being lowered flows and warm water in the river, which then stacks chinook in the estuary. Time to get fish'n on the Lower Rogue. There have been fish over 40 pounds caught each day this week, with a great 43 pound fish boated by Denny Hughson yester day the 17th.

The River opens for Wild Chinook on July 15th

There is bait in the Rogue River estuary, over 100 pelicans were diving this week from the mouth upriver a mile. This is a rare thing, having large bait schools in the estuary in June, this is usually a late July or August deal. Where the bait is soon is where the King Salmon are. The river is warming and dropping slowly, which should stack Kings in the Tidal area. Look for mid July to be King Salmon fishing full swing, trolling anchovies and spinners. July 15th on will be open for two Chinook or King salmon wild or hatchery. Prior to July 15 we are limited to two hatchery Kings, July 15th either can be kept, hatchery or wild. The early reports are the ocean is stuffed with Silver Salmon. I expect a great Silver run this year in Sept. and October, just a heads up on Silvers. We are booking dates for these fisheries now, so give us a call and we set your dates aside. Lets tie into a few on the Rogue. 1-800-348-4138

Oregon Troutfitters Trout Camp - report updated 5/1/2003
Trout Camp Warner Mountains
We are excited about this years Trout Camp which will run May 24th to June 15th to take advantage of the best fishing conditions.
We have two ranches leased one with an 1100 acre lake the other with 10 miles of mountain meadow stream. Some great flyfishing for Wild Redband Trout.
We have limited date is your interested. If you wish to go it alone fish your Eastern Oregon areas May 24th to July 1 for best success as stream flows will drop to levels not conducive to best oppertunities to flyfish. Handle these Wild Rainbow carefully and do not stress them by fishing in low warm water situations.
