Video Conferencing allows people at two or more locations to see and hear each other at the same time.  For high quality sound and pictures, Video Conferencing requires a high-speed Internet connection for both sending and receiving data.  Symmetric DSL Internet connectivity (SDSL), rather than Asymmetric DSL (ADSL) access, will therefore provide superior results.

Although Video Conferencing became available years ago, the equipment and network requirements were extremely costly.  An ISDN network connection was typically needed, along with expensive cameras and sound equipment.  Inexpensive SDSL broadband connectivity coupled with inexpensive web cameras, microphones and speakers, has now made Video Conferencing affordable and cost effective for many different uses.

Today, there are free Video Conferencing packages available (e.g. Microsoft NetMeeting) as well as feature-rich Video Conferencing software packages that can be purchased.

Many schools and universities are now leveraging their SDSL Internet connections to provide counseling, tutoring and even course instruction to students in remote locations over the Internet.  Small and medium size businesses are also discovering the value of video conferencing for marketing purposes.
