Shops need hits

It is pretty obvious that shopping sites need hits, but it is so often overlooked. When developing new ecommerce websites as part of the Affordable Group or for one of our clients, we will always use technology that is searchable.

If you develop a shopping site and the products can not be found by the search engine robots then you are loosing out on potentially thousands of customers. The products may be 3 or 4 clicks away from the home page. This is fine, but sometimes you have to let content de the deciding factor over design.

If you visit one of our own sites, www.sunglasses-shop.co.uk most sunglasses can be found in just 3 clicks. All products are searchable on most search engines. The pages must be able to be indexed to help sell your products. Most customers to a website will not come via the home page, but via the actual product page itself, so don’t think of you website as being a journey for the customer from one page to the next. If they are searching for the product and find the link on a search engine, if you use frames make sure an ‘add to cart’ button is with the actual product, not just on the menu bar.
