Worth Magazine Selects
National Center for Missing & Exploited Children
For Its “America’s 100 Best Charities” List
ALEXANDRIA, VA – January 2, 2002 – The National Center for
Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) is one of the best charities “to
give your money and your trust to” according to the December/January 2002
issue of Worth magazine as it named NCMEC to its list of “America’s 100
Best Charities.” To develop their guide for giving, Worth researchers
investigated national nonprofit candidates by reviewing three years of
financial records, annual reports and mission statements. Further
information was obtained through extensive interviews with nonprofit executives
themselves and with philanthropy experts to determine which charities are
efficiently carrying out their missions.
“The National Center knows that the public has a multitude
of choices for their charitable giving. People give to us because
they want to help find missing kids and prevent child victimization so
we work hard to ensure that every dollar is spent wisely,” stated NCMEC
President and CEO Ernie Allen. “We are grateful to be recognized
by Worth magazine as one of the top 100 charities.”
In the list, each nonprofit’s programs are briefly described
and a $100 donation is broken down to show its allocation to programs,
fundraising, administration, and future reserves. Worth’s list includes
nonprofits in the fields of environment, relief and development, health,
human services and education. For more information, please see “For
Greater Good” online at Worth.com.
NCMEC is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization, which serves
as a national clearinghouse for information and a resource center for child
protection. Created in 1984, NCMEC has aided law enforcement officials
in the search for over 78,000 missing
children. More than 62,000 children have been returned to their
families as a result. For more information about NCMEC, call
its toll-free, 24-hour hotline at 1-800-THE-LOST or visit
