Environmental Information
The Civil Aviation Authority’s Directorate of Airspace Policy (DAP) provides a focal point for receiving and responding to aviation environmental complaints, including aircraft noise complaints, from the general public. Many of the complaints that the Directorate receive would be better described as requests for information or advice. Accordingly, a series of Environmental Information Sheets about aviation issues has been compiled with the aim of addressing many frequently asked questions. If, having reviewed the contents of the Information Sheets, you require clarification or wish to formally record an aviation-related environmental complaint, you can contact DAP on 020 7453 6524/5 or by writing to:

Identify Friend or Foe/Secondary Surveillance Radar (IFF/SSR)
The Civil Aviation Authority’s Directorate of Airspace Policy (DAP) provides the focal point and Secretariat to the Cabinet Office sponsored National IFF/SSR Committee (NISC) which is responsible for the policy, operation and licensing of IFF/SSR interrogators in the UK, including ACAS I collision warning systems.

DAP also provides the focal point for the implementation of Mode S SSR in the UK.

Furthermore, the Directorate is responsible for the management of the UK SSR code allocation plan. Accordingly, all requests for the allocation of SSR codes for temporary use or on a permanent basis should be addressed to DAP on 020 7453 6536 or in writing to:

UAVs
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) are a new aspect of aviation, and which will be a significant part of civilian and military aviation in the future. Existing systems, operated predominantly by the military in operational theatres around the globe, range in size from those that can be held in the palm of a hand to those with a wingspan similar to a Boeing 737 airliner. In the UK, UAV activity is kept within segregated airspace, however in the next few years the UK MOD will procure a greater UAV capability and will understandably aspire to fly their UAVs in a wide range of UK airspace classes in the future.
