Hunter Information

If you enjoy fishing, you may want to include a lightweight, break down fishing rod, as many of our hunting sites are within excellent fishing waters.  We hunt in Game Units 9, 17, 19 and all sub-units.

Gear must be kept to a minimum.
You must always keep in mind that you will be traveling in a small bush plane, and size and weight are critical!  Please pack gear in small flexible bags, such as duffel bags - NO HARD SUITCASES, please.  Rifles can be transported only in soft cases.  Pack frames must be removed from packs for transporting.
All personal gear, including food, must be kept to a maximum of 85lbs. per person.  Non compliance could cause extensive flight delays and/or an increase in price.
A two person minimum hunting party is preferred for safety reasons.

All meat must be brought out of the field!  In order to transport your meat, all meat should be placed in game bags.  Pillow case sized bags are preferred.  Cheese cloth bags are not strong enough and plastic bags can cause meat to spoil.  We discourage the use of either cheese cloth or plastic bags.
Meat can be donated, we have a list of families that will pick it up from the dock.  If you choose to keep your meat we can deliver it to one of the local meat processors.  Contact local meat processors to make prior arrangements for your meat processing:

  • >> Tustumena Smokehouse:  907.260.3401
  • >> Echo Lake Lockers:  907.262.4155

*Most likely there will be excess baggage charges.  Check with your airlines on excess baggage charges.
In planning your trip, give yourself additional days at both ends of the hunt in case weather conditions delay your departure or pick up day.  This extra time is needed to assemble your gear for departure as well as prepare your meat and trophies for shipment from Kenai to your home.
