Registration Open: 2006 Training Workshop for Unidata Software
Space is still available for Unidata's 2006 Training Workshop. The workshop features old favorites such as McIDAS, GEMPAK, and LDM; our newest visualization package, the IDV; and three sessions newly developed for 2006—netCDF for Developers, netCDF Java, and THREDDS Data Server Administration. The cost to attend the workshop is $50 per session.   more >

Unidata Seminar Series: Initial Results and Operational Plans for the six-satellite COSMIC
Chris Rocken and Doug Hunt (UOP, COSMIC Program) will be giving a seminar titled "Initial Results and Operational Plans for the six-satellite Constellation Observing System for Meteorology, Ionosphere, and Climate (COSMIC)" on Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at 1:30 pm in the Unidata Conference Room (FL4 1318). Formosat-3 / COSMIC (F3/C) is a joint Taiwan - US radio occultation (RO) satellite mission for weather forecasting, climate monitoring, space weather monitoring, and geodetic research. NSF, NOAA, NASA, USAF and ONR jointly support the US component of the mission.   more >

Unidata director, Mohan Ramamurthy, welcomed participants in his opening remarks which highlighted the importance of democratizing data access that is characteristic of the Unidata endeavor. Kelvin Droegemeier, University of Oklahoma Professor of Meteorology and UCAR Board of Trustees chair, amplified the democratization theme as he delivered the Keynote Address describing the goals and capabilities of the LEAD (Linked Environments for Atmospheric Discovery) project.   more >
