Research Opportunities
Individuals at many advanced stages of education and training have requested opportunities to join the School's research laboratories, an international recognition of expertise in specific areas. The University also offers a broad range of graduate and advanced dental education programs. Master of Science degree programs are offered in Dental Hygiene Education, Endodontics, Operative Dentistry, Oral Biology, Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Periodontology, and Prosthodontics. Graduate education to the Ph.D. level is offered in Oral Epidemiology and Oral Biology. The School of Dentistry at UNC also has multi-disciplinary relationships to pursue research problems and conduct training. Several of the research faculty have programmatic research activities which involve faculty in the Schools of Medicine and Public Health. Several training initiatives involve faculty from outside the School of Dentistry, including the Oral Biology Ph.D. Program. These relationships have allowed significant research and training activities to develop over the years, and exhibit the close relationships with other units on campus that allow us to take advantage of University resources, expertise, and opportunities for expansion for both basic sciences and clinical research. In addition to degree and certificate-granting programs, researchers of the School of Dentistry offer postdoctoral training and training for visiting scientists. Opportunities for post-Ph.D. training may be made available through specific research programs and investigators, and interested individuals should directly contact faculty in the field of interest. Visiting scientists and postdoctoral research associates represent an international community and established collaborative relationships with many foreign and U.S. institutions. Last modified:
